Role: Care Assistant DAYS & NIGHTS (8am - 2pm, 2pm - 8pm, 8pm - 8am shift patterns) (Rota covers Monday to Sunday)
As a Care Assistant at Hollybank House, you must be a passionate and caring person who is able to deliver high quality person-centred care, promote dignity and independence for all our residents. You must have a sympathetic understanding of the needs of elderly people and their families.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Recognise that each individual is unique. You must respect each resident's choice about how their care and support is provided and promote their dignity at all times.
* Carefully listen and observe how each resident prefers their care and support to be delivered on a day-to-day basis to ensure their overall wellbeing.
* Ensure that residents are encouraged and supported to remain as independent and active as possible.
* Provide all aspects of hands-on personal care that include but not restricted to washing, showering and bathing, dressing and grooming, dental hygiene, toileting and continence care, assistance with mobility and transfer, support with eating and drinking and other wellbeing related activities.
* Maintain skills and knowledge and deliver personal care according to the latest guidelines and best practice evidence available.
* Ensure to follow the planned delivery of care and any relevant changes identified in the care plan are adhered to.
* Ensure accident/incident reports are written clearly and concisely and that any remedial action or learning is incorporated into care delivery.
* Be knowledgeable about Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults policies and procedures and report any untoward events in accordance with the Home and Local Authority requirements.
* Ensure that all care equipment is maintained in a safe, clean and fully functional state and you are trained to use them. Report any equipment failures or damage to the Home Manager.
* Act as a point of contact (keyworker) between the residents and their families to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere within the care home.
* Ensure that areas of identified risk are appropriately monitored, and outcomes recorded and acted upon. For example, fluid and nutrition charts and turning regimes etc.
* Ensure effective and clearly documented handover systems are maintained to facilitate the effective transfer of information between staff and shifts.
* Assist in developing care plans related to the assessed needs and choices of individual residents.
* Act as a professional role model to peer groups.
* Carry out any duties reasonably required to ensure the smooth operation of the Care Home.
About You
* Demonstrable track record in a care role within care homes or domiciliary care environment is preferred.
* Qualification in Adult Care Worker (Level 2) is preferred.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a people first approach.
* Good proficiency in the use of IT systems.
* Ability to multitask, prioritise and take ownership of this role with confidence and discretion.
* Possess strong planning and organisational skills.
