GROUP DIRECT TAX ACCOUNTANT

We are pleased to bring this rare opportunity to you, as we look to recruit a Tax Accountant.
This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious tax professional to join our in-house team and take ownership of indirect tax matters across a dynamic, predominantly UK-based group with operations in Ireland.
The role offers a strong compliance foundation while providing genuine scope to broaden your experience through advisory work, cross-border VAT issues, and project involvement.
You’ll work closely with finance and operational teams, developing a business partnering approach and making a real impact on how the Group manages indirect tax.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Monitor legislative changes and advise on their impact to the business.
2. Manage all aspects of indirect tax compliance, including VAT and customs obligations.
3. Ensure VAT processes are carried out effectively, including preparation of VAT workings, reconciliations, and incorporation into Group VAT returns.
4. Analyse and complete Group VAT returns; coordinate other indirect tax filings.
5. Handle customs and Northern Ireland protocol requirements, including preparing and submitting Trader Support Service (TSS) declarations.
6. Maintain audit-ready documentation for VAT recovery, customs declarations, and risk assessments.
7. Ensure adherence to HMRC and Revenue Commissioners deadlines for indirect tax filings.
8. Provide finance and operational teams with indirect tax and CIS guidance, training, and process improvements.
9. Support Finance in ensuring CIS compliance is accurate and complete.
10. Communicate with HMRC and Revenue Commissioners on VAT, CIS/RCT, and import-related matters.
11. Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure accurate and timely audit information.
12. Collaborate with internal and external tax services to identify risks and ensure compliance.
13. Support implementation and optimisation of tax technology and automation tools.
14. Provide support to the Tax Manager with year-end financial accounting calculations and computations.
15. Assist the Tax Manager with project work, cross-functional initiatives, and ad hoc technical matters.

Person Specification
Essential
16. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CTA Qualified
17. Strong technical proficiency in UK VAT and indirect tax compliance
18. An interest in developing UK and Irish direct tax knowledge
19. Tax experience ideally gained in a Big 4 professional practice firm or from a large corporate environment
Desirable
20. Construction experience
21. In-house tax experience
22. Familiarity with customs procedures, post-Brexit VAT rules and the Windsor Framework
23. Experience with indirect tax technology or automation tools
Competencies Required
24. Excellent numerical and technical analysis skills
25. Good knowledge of systems and IT
26. Strong interpersonal and communication skills
27. Drive and determination
28. Ability to prioritise and work on tight deadlines to ensure that compliance requirements are met accurately and on time
