Liquid Personnel is currently recruiting for an Independent Reviewing Officer to join as Chairpersons in the Child Protection team based in Staffordshire.
What will your responsibilities be?
We are seeking to recruit two full time Independent Reviewing Officers/ Child Protection Conference Chairs.
1 based North District/Newcastle,
1 based East District/Burton.
1. However, there will be expectations to conduct meetings according to business need across the County (Child Protection Chair). Travel will be expected for children in care who are placed out of county.
2. This role will be to cover long term sickness absence and will be reviewed every three months in line with business need.
3. You will be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England and have a minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience as a Conference Chair and IRO.
4. Detailed understanding of statutory guidance, including the IRO Handbook and Working Together 2023.
5. Proven ability to lead, challenge, and influence multi-agency planning as well as a commitment to restorative practice and child-centred planning.
6. Chairing Child in Care and Child Protection Conferences which will be in-person meetings.
7. Travelling to visit children as per statutory guidance, to prepare and gather their views in readiness for their review meeting. Ensure the children’s voice is heard and central to decision making.
8. As an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) and Conference Chair, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children across Staffordshire and potentially out of county.
9. This will be a dual role where you will chair child protection conferences and statutory child in care reviews, ensuring that all plans are robust, achievable, and centred on the child’s needs.
10. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including being able to analyse and evaluate information effectively and negotiate with colleagues.
11. You will be expected to challenge and scrutinise the Local Authority where plans are not progressing, using restorative practice and the escalation process to drive improvement.
12. Have oversight of and scrutinise children in our care EHCP’s, PEP’s and Health Assessments. Where required, highlight positive practice and escalate concerns to the appropriate senior manager.
13. To contribute to quality assurance processes through monitoring of and adherence to service and inter-agency standards, policy and procedures and evaluation of practice relating to child protection and children in our care.
