We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Enforcement Officer to help drive the operational delivery of our Animal Health Trading Standards team across North Yorkshire. Our Service The Farming, Food and Health service within North Yorkshire Regulatory Services, incorporates both Environmental Health and Trading Standards functions, and its purpose is to protect and enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the County and to protect the interests of legitimate businesses. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and where necessary by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Councils statutory and non-statutory functions. The Role This is more than a regulatory role- it’s a chance to make a meaningful impact in one of the UK’s most diverse agricultural regions. As an Enforcement Officer you will: · Specialise in animal health and welfare legislation · Provide guidance and support to farmers on animal health and welfare matters · Undertake investigations and audits at livestock premises and critical control points · Take enforcement action, when necessary, in line with the NYC enforcement policy · Respond to notifiable disease outbreaks, supporting containment efforts · Collaborate with key partners such as Public Health and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) to mitigate spread and protect the farming industry What You Will Bring To thrive in this role, you should bring: · A Chartered Trading Standards Institute animal health and welfare qualification, a Certificate of Professional Competency in feed delivery, or equivalent knowledge and experience · Proven ability to manage conflict and complaints, both informally and formally · Knowledge of current animal health legislation · Understanding of agencies such as DEFRA and APHA · Strong investigative, analytical, and interpretive skills · Willingness to work predominantly outdoors, year-round, across sites like farms, livestock markets, abattoirs and feed mills · Ability to handle livestock, sample animal feed and fertilisers Working for us · When you join us, you are entitled to our outstanding benefits and wellbeing plan as part of your position.
