Complex Care Support Worker in York, YO23. Exciting new opportunity to join Team Charlie! Apply today to support a teenager with complex needs, and a love for football and gaming! Up to £17.50 Gross per Hour * Nearest Station: York Railway Station * Salary/Wage: £17.00 Weekdays | £17.50 Weekends. Gross per Hour * Driving Requirements: Yes, Automatic Adapted Vehicle (WAV) for use while on duty * Essential: Experience supporting a client with complex needs including physical, cognitive and health. Complex care (PEG and airway suctioning) * Desirable: Experience supporting a client with dystonia * Start Date: ASAP * Days & Hours: Zero Hour / Bank Contract. Term Time: Monday to Friday. 7.00am to 10.00am and 3.00pm to 9.00pm. Weekends and School Holidays: 8.00am to 8.00pm. Client will consider offering full or part-time contracts * Pets in Home: Yes, 1 Dog * Recruiter Contact: Suhada (url removed) About the Client Meet Charlie – a fun, sociable, and happy 15-year-old with a love of football and gaming. He is the heart of a loving family, where family time is very important, along with cheering on Leeds United! Charlie has complex needs and as a result is totally dependent on others to meet all his social, personal, health, care and medical needs, on a 24/7 basis. He is diagnosed with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, progressive dystonia, an involuntary movement disorder, developmental delay, and a visual and hearing impairment. He is a wheelchair user, requires daily oral suctioning, daily chest physio, and oxygen administration, when appropriate He communicates primarily through Eye Gaze technology, switching to simpler "yes/no" signing when required and enjoys a blended liquid diet via his PEG, transitioning to a J-tube in the coming weeks, all his nutrition, fluid and medication is administered via his tube. Charlie experiences frequent, painful, prolonged and debilitating dystonic episodes, impacting every aspect of day-to-day life. Despite the complexity of his needs, Charlie’s personality shines through—he’s full of life, humour, and banter. The Role at a Glance Charlie’s care is provided on a 2:1 basis, either alongside a team member or Mum. A typical morning starts with chest physio, stretching, personal care, dressing, breakfast and ready for school transport. Afterschool, weekends and school holidays there is much more scope and time to plan fun activities. Due to Charlie’s dystonia, health, there are hours / days when the role is focused on managing his pain and comfort levels and supporting his recovery. On good days, it is vital that Charlie’s time is activity filled, ensuring he enjoys life to fullest, supporting community outings, activities, and adventures that reflect his vibrant personality. Charlie’s Complex Care Support Worker will advocate and continually promote his independence. This Job Would Suit This role would suit a fun, confident, bubbly, and engaging Complex Care Support Worker that is resilient and compassionate. Whilst bespoke training is provided, you must have experience within complex care due to Charlie’s significant needs.
