Position summary

The successful candidate will have a passion for synthetic organic chemistry and a desire to join our highly innovative High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) team within Chemical Research & Development (CRD). As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for designing and developing efficient chemical routes and processes for the large-scale manufacture of small molecules, including complex Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), for the pharmaceutical and other industries. Using state-of-the-art technologies, robotics and digitalised workflows, you will contribute to the development of novel synthetic methodologies, from organometallic chemistry to biocatalysis. With your expertise in organic chemistry and a strong understanding of contemporary literature, you will play a crucial role in driving our projects forward and making a meaningful impact on patients' lives.


Asymchem will invest in your development so that you can:

* Support the design new synthetic routes and processes to new chemical entities
* Develop advanced skills in data-centric process design enabling the development of the most efficient, sustainable, robust and safe manufacturing processes.
* Deliver innovative solutions to chemical challenges utilising advanced automated technologies to execute and analyse high-throughput reaction screens from a wide variety of modern chemical transformations, such as homogeneous & heterogeneous catalysis, photochemistry, electrochemistry, biocatalysis.
* Utilise statistics, machine learning and data visualisation applications to support the design and analysis of experimental programs.
* Become a subject matter expert and industry leader in the art of HTE whilst gaining leadership skills delivering scientific excellence through others.
* Engage in departmental science and share your knowledge.
* Apply a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities for improved work processes to deliver increased productivity, value and quality.
* Continue to develop professionally in a range of technical areas and transferable skills, by utilising the experience and support of our highly skilled team.


Qualifications, skills and experience

* A PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry with pharma or CDMO experience is highly desirable, or a Bachelor’s/Master’s in Chemistry with substantial pharma or CDMO experience is essential.
* Experience working in High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) is beneficial but not essential.
* Extensive knowledge of contemporary literature and organic chemistry covering classic and modern synthetic reagents, asymmetric methodologies, and related reaction mechanisms.
* A passion for continuous learning and improvement, with a strong ability to acquire new skills and apply them effectively.
* Creative and analytical problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to apply knowledge to new challenges and develop innovative solutions.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, fostering effective teamwork and collaboration, are essential.
* Experience in overseeing scientific projects and providing colleague mentorship is highly desirable.
