Senior Data Test Engineer – DWP Digital

About the role
Own the testing strategy for DWP's data transformation programme. Lead test engineering for the migration of our core analytics platform, define strategy, mentor engineers to integrate testing into agile delivery, and play a key role in ensuring quality and performance in one of the UK's largest digital modernisation programmes.
Responsibilities
* Define the overall testing strategy and lead test engineering teams.
* Oversee all testing activities and embed best practices across teams.
* Set up test infrastructure, select appropriate tools and monitor performance to reduce technical debt.
* Collaborate with software development, product and delivery teams to align goals and integrate testing into agile delivery.
* Champion continuous improvement through reviews, mentoring, and community discussions on the latest trends and tools.
* Support professional development, contribute to recruitment, and help shape standards for testing practices.
* Travel to other digital hubs as required for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications & Experience
* Analytical thinking & problem solving – analyse complex requirements to identify gaps and risks, synthesise conflicting information, and give clear actionable recommendations.
* Non‑Functional testing expertise – extensive hands‑on experience designing and executing a wide range of non‑functional tests; coach others; raise and prioritise defects.
* Agile & Lean delivery – apply Agile and Lean principles to optimise delivery and testing processes, support teams in visualising outcomes, and ensure delivery meets agreed MVP standards.
