Job summary
In this role you will provide specialist nursing care to patients across the liver specialty.
If this is your first role as a Hepatology CNS you will undergo a period of training. You will work alongside experienced practitioners to gain experience in the hepatology clinics and as your competence and confidence grows you move in to a more autonomous position.
An experienced practitioner would have the opportunity to work with the existing CNS team who carry out a varied role. We work in both hospital and community settings to offer nurse led clinics in areas such as stable cirrhosis, Viral hepatitis, AILD, MASLD, and speciality clinics such as treating hard to reach patients with hepatitis C or HBV and the rarer liver disease patients and as well as a clinic for newly discharged decompensated patients and nurse led paracentesis.
You will need to be passionate about liver disease and have experience of hepatology nursing. Good communication skills are essential. You will be engaging key stakeholders, supporting the nursing team to deliver specialist hepatology nursing across secondary and primary care. Working with others at national level on new nursing projects would be supported.
There are two one year fixed term posts available to cover maternity leave.
Main duties of the job
* To liaise with all key members of the multidisciplinary team to advise and support colleagues in the delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.
* To undertake hepatology nurse led clinics and to be responsible for excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating nurse-led clinics.
* To work autonomously to deliver specialist hepatology clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.
* To contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients with the Hepatology and Operating Network to meet the elimination targets for HCV.
* To contribute to training and education within hepatology specialist area in the hospital and community setting.
* To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through reviewing the evidence base and embedding this in practice through engagement in research activities.
* To act as a visible hepatology role model and expert practitioner.
