Overview Of Project/role
The Solution Architect responsible for the project level architecture design for TfL's solution developments. The Solution Architect will communicate the proposed architecture within the project and gain project approval from the project manager, business analyst, development and test teams. They will ensure that the project level architecture implemented meets the business objectives and technical requirements.
Key Accountabilities
* Create conceptual, logical and physical component and data models
* Define non-functional requirements
* Create scenarios and traceability between requirements and solution
* Maintain up to date documentation of the as-built architecture
* The ‘systems scope’ will include but not limited to the following generic system types – open and closed loop smart-card ticketing solutions, billing and revenue collection, customer-facing and contact centre systems including CRM.
* The Solution Architect will work at project level and accept work packages identified and scoped by the Consultant Architect Lead or Solution Architecture Manager.
* Ensure that the solution architecture meets the non-functional requirements. The Solution Architect will be accountable for the end-to-end integrated solution.
* Have the ability to take a well-defined set of requirements as input into the architecture creation process.
* Implement the Architecture Standards & Principles in relation to solutions deployed by TfL.
* Provide input into the project planning stage for the component cost estimates as defined by the new architecture.
* Analysing the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of public transport operations and smart card ticketing solutions
* Detailed knowledge of software architecture patterns for internal web sites, external web sites, back office transactional systems and workflow engines.
* Knowledge of UML including functional decomposition, use cases, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, components and interface design.
* Industry knowledge of Information technology trends particularly those within public transport operations and smart cards.
* Degree, or equivalent qualification such as TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework).
Skills
* Strong solution architecture skills in architecting business components across software, infrastructure and networks.
* Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Ability to take a loose set of requirements and build a high level architecture using UML. Refining the architecture as more information is discovered, decisions identified and choices are made.
* Proven ability to analyse complex components, identify decision points, draw conclusions and produce architecture roadmaps.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people within the delivery team including project managers, business analysts, developers, and testers.
Experience
Have a detailed understanding of IT systems with specific experience of designing software solutions in some or all of:
* Architecture of high-volume transactional solutions in on-premise and cloud environments, including database applications, web site solutions and workflow applications.
* Has experience of designing business applications and defining non-functional requirements.
* Software development background, preferably in Microsoft technologies including Azure cloud
* Proven experience of designing software within an overall agile development process. Familiar with tools and techniques used.
