We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Whittlesey (Central Engineering) team in the position of Controls Engineer.
Your duties would include but not be limited to the following:
To provide specialist expertise and knowledge, driving projects and improvements to reduce downtime and increase throughput across the company by applying advanced techniques in the areas of automation, PLC, SCADA and HMIs. Working within the Central Engineering Team, you will be part of a core team tasked with improving the level of automation and control across approximately 16 highly automated manufacturing sites.
Specifically, the company aims to enhance existing highly automated production environments with advanced SCADA and HMI systems to streamline reporting and improve Process Control.
1. Develop and adhere to the Forterra standards for PLC, HMI, and SCADA implementations.
2. Design, develop, and implement advanced SCADA systems for factories to streamline fault finding and improve machine availability.
3. Produce Function Design Specifications for submission to third-party system integrators.
4. Manage small to medium-sized control-based projects from conception to completion.
5. Assist in high-priority or complex breakdowns across the group on an exceptional basis.
6. Participate in cross-functional teams for large projects, taking ownership of PLC and SCADA areas.
7. Ensure safety standards are met in the design and operation of automated equipment and on-site behavior.
8. Provide commissioning support for projects across the group.
9. Design and execute small-scale projects independently.

1. Strong background in software development with emphasis on industrial control systems and factory system integration.
2. Good interpersonal skills, teamwork, hands-on approach, and a desire to deliver improved technology and equipment to end-users.
3. Proactive with accountability for assigned projects and tasks.
4. Detail-oriented.
5. Strong presentation skills, capable of communicating effectively at all levels.
6. Willingness and ability to travel across various UK sites.
