This is a remote role; however, the candidate should be based near Farnborough or Greater Manchester, as travel to our offices will be required on an ad-hoc basis. As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure. You’ll work primarily with Google Cloud (GCP) or AWS using tools like Terraform, Kubernetes (GKE or EKS), and ArgoCD to deliver reliable, scalable systems. You’ll contribute to infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native tooling, collaborating with engineers and stakeholders to ensure our platforms are secure, efficient, and well-monitored. Your main focus will be on building and improving the cloud platforms that power our products. Working closely with developers, QA engineers, and product owners, you’ll help design and implement solutions across our GCP and AWS environments, from developing tools that enable new regions, to integrating cloud-native capabilities that help teams deliver software globally. You’ll ensure our platform remains scalable, reliable, and cost-effective, while contributing to continuous improvement in automation and deployment practices. As a key member of the platform team, you’ll take ownership of your work, collaborate across disciplines to solve complex problems, and actively grow your skills in modern cloud technologies and automation. What you will be doing Design, build, and automate core cloud platform solutions, ensuring everything you create is scalable, secure, and cost-effective, from internal tools, cloud native solutions to networking and kubernetes orchestration. Contribute to the long-term cloud platform strategy and roadmap, designing integrated solutions that solve core business problems rather than focusing on isolated, short-term fixes. Modernise and migrate existing systems by analysing legacy environments, assisting with documentation, and supporting transitions to cloud-native architectures. Collaborate closely with product owners, developers, and QA engineers in an Agile team to translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions. Take ownership of the platform’s performance and reliability, using observability tools to proactively monitor systems and resolve issues before they impact our global operations. Proactively manage and optimise cloud costs, consistently identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to maintain lean platform expenses. Create clear documentation for the solutions you build and stay current with emerging technologies, actively sharing your knowledge to foster a culture of continuous learning. Participate in an on-call rota to provide critical support during major incidents, with an expected response time of 30 minutes. Delivery As a global business we provide 24/7 support to our customers; this means that some roles are required to provide “on call” support; this role is one that is required to do so. A monthly on call rota will be provided to you and you will be required to be “on call” for one week in every 4/6 weeks (or as otherwise agreed with your manager). Question and, where necessary, challenge constructively any instruction believed not to be in the best interest of the business or its customers. Identify process improvements - agree and then implement initiatives (after approval) to continuously improve the responsiveness to both customer & business needs. Deliver to agreed timelines and ensure you raise an issue early on with your manager if you believe you’re unlikely to hit any agreed deadline. Stakeholder Management Provide excellent customer service at every opportunity both internally and externally – going the extra mile to help a customer and ensure that the business achieves its goals. Put the client first and accommodate changing business priorities with a positive outlook and ensuring other team members are sharing the change in direction. Continue to be driven by supporting the needs of our customers as the first priority whilst ensuring the day-to-day role is carried out to a high standard Support the business and department by improving processes and enhancing efficiencies. Communicate highly effectively and early both internally and externally as appropriate. Risk and Compliance Full adherence with all company policies and procedures as published from time to time. Utilise company resources efficiently and cost effectively Protect the security of all company and customer data/information at all times. Fulfil and comply with the terms and conditions of your contract of employment with the company. Efficient and accurate time recording is a business requirement; you are required to time record on a daily basis. To ensure that continuous professional development is undertaken and completed. Work with minimal supervision on complex tasks Contribute to the achievement of the business vision and objectives. Annually review your job progress with the objective of achieving continuous improvement. Assist in the provision of information, staff training and technical instruction as appropriate. Experience & Skills Needed 2 years of operational experience of working within Google Cloud Platforms (GCP) and or Amazon Web Services (AWS) 2 years of operational experience with Container technologies (GKE, EKS, ECS, Docker, Kubernetes). 2 years of operational experience and understanding of Infrastructure as Code, most notably Terraform. 2 years of experience using CI/CD frameworks and implementing best practices. Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or any other suitable development languages. Conceptual knowledge of Infrastructure Services, DNS, SSL, Load Balancing, TCP/IP, VPNs, Proxies. Proficient in Linux Systems Administration and Operations. Experience in managing and scaling distributed systems in a public, private, or hybrid cloud environment. Practical understanding of GIT, DevOps foundations. Public cloud, preferably GCP, including concepts like VPCs, Projects, Accounts, and IAM. Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies. Strong diagnostic/troubleshooting skills for complex enterprise systems. Able to quickly learn and work with new languages and technologies. Ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with peers, managers and both internal and external customers. Open attitude to sharing ideas, knowledge, and information to both technical and non-technical people. Can work in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
