This Assistant Quantity Surveyor will report to the Area Commercial Manager and will work within UKPN Services - Commercial based in our Heathrow office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £54,166 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote.

Job Nature and Scope:

UK Power Network Services has long-term contracts to upgrade, operate, and complete the lifecycle maintenance of high voltage electrical assets for specific major clients, along with a capital expenditure programme for infrastructure and connections to multiple client sites. UK Power Networks Services is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to oversee the commercial aspects of these contracts.

Job Purpose:

To assist Quantity Surveyors, the Area Commercial Manager, and the Lead Commercial Manager in providing professional commercial support across specified long-term contracts and client projects.

You will support commercial aspects of contracts and projects, including setup, management, pricing, service delivery, scope changes, and dispute resolution. You will ensure contract compliance and support efforts to maximize profit.

Additionally, you will support the commercial project team, including Quantity Surveyors, Commercial Quantity Surveyors, and Administrative staff, in managing client, subcontractor, and supplier contracts.

* Commercial & Contract Management:
o Support the contract and commercial management team to achieve all contract-related goals.
o Ensure activities comply with UKPN guidelines, reporting non-conformance to the Area Commercial Manager.
o Serve as commercial lead for smaller projects or support larger projects across a portfolio of contracts.
* Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
o Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and tender documents.
o Monitor project costs and ensure alignment with budgets.
* Contract and Supplier Management:
o Support in preparing and reviewing contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
o Assist in evaluating and negotiating supplier and subcontractor agreements.
* Reporting & Compliance:
o Assist in preparing valuations, cost reports, and forecasts.
o Support in assessing and certifying subcontractor payments.
o Identify and report financial risks and discrepancies.
o Produce quality reports and question decisions where necessary.
* Project Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement:
o Collaborate with project managers, site teams, and senior surveyors.
o Attend site visits, meetings, and briefings.
o Work with project and client teams to ensure project delivery following contracts.
* General Responsibilities:
o Coordinate with external partners and team members to ensure smooth project progress.
o Support dispute resolution efforts.
o Maintain knowledge of major contracts to support best practices and future projects within UKPN Services.

Dimensions:

* Project turnover up to £10 million annually.

While based at the Heathrow site, the jobholder will develop knowledge of other contracts to transfer best practices and support future growth projects.

Qualifications:

* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Experience in a similar role, especially in construction, infrastructure, or electrical engineering, is advantageous.
* Skills in cost estimation, procurement, and contract management.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, cost management software, and financial reporting tools.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
* Teamworking skills with a proactive and adaptable approach.
* Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g., NEC).
* Experience in resolving commercial disputes.
* Familiarity with project reporting and financial forecasting.
