Wye Valley NHS Trust is seeking a Dispensary Manager Pharmacy Technician to provide professional and operational leadership within the Acute Hospital setting. This key role involves responsibility for the day‑to‑day management and effective delivery of a safe, accurate and efficient dispensary service, supporting medicines optimisation and continuous service improvement in line with NHS and Trust objectives. Working closely with pharmacy colleagues and multidisciplinary teams, you will lead, develop and support dispensary staff, oversee workforce planning and performance, manage complex operational issues, and contribute to Pharmacy Board reporting and service development. You will undertake final accuracy checking as an Accredited Checking Technician (ACT), ensure compliance with legal, professional and governance standards (including Controlled Drugs), and use performance data and quality improvement methods to drive efficiency and patient safety. We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician with significant acute hospital experience, proven people management skills, strong clinical and operational knowledge, and a commitment to compassionate leadership and excellence in patient care.
Main duties of the job
* Act as the operational lead for the Dispensary, with responsibility for the day‑to‑day management and effective delivery of Dispensary services.
* Ensure the provision of a safe, accurate, efficient and cost‑effective Dispensary service in line with Trust objectives, NHS service improvement principles and modernisation initiatives.
* Provide visible operational leadership to the Dispensary team, promoting a positive, supportive and inclusive working culture.
* Manage workforce deployment and service continuity during unplanned events, escalating risks and issues appropriately and supporting the resolution of complex operational challenges.
* Contribute to the development, review and implementation of local policies, procedures and standard operating procedures in line with GPhC and Royal Pharmaceutical Society standards and Trust governance requirements recognising impact on wider clinical services.
* Manage the performance, conduct and development of dispensary staff, including Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants and operational oversight of Pharmacists working within the Dispensary (while recognising professional accountability frameworks).

Qualifications
* Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Current nationally recognised Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) Qualification (Level 3)
* Management Qualification to level 5 (or be willing towards this) and equivalent experience
* Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
* Completion of QSIR qualification at any level but willing to work towards Practitioner Level
Skills
* Able to communicate effectively verbally, written and by presentation with patients and staff at all levels including at executive, regional and national level
* Able to deliver to targets and deadlines
* Have excellent IT and keyboard skills and a working knowledge of pharmacy systems, reporting and presenting software
* Knowledge and understanding of common Trust HR policies and procedures and the ability to implement them consistently and effectively
* Excellent all round clinical and procedural knowledge of Pharmacy practice in secondary care
* Ability to interpret data and use analytical skills to present KPI reports to Pharmacy Board and during regional and national benchmarking exercises
Experience
* Significant experience in an Acute Hospital Pharmacy setting
* Proven management role with experience of managing staff and a service
* Experience of conflict resolution and reaching a satisfactory outcome
* Experience of carrying out audits on services
* Experience of change management
