Leap Environmental an RSK Group company are recruiting for a Project Engineer to join the team based in Crawley, UK. This is a full time, permanent position. You will be required to work in the office 2-3 days a week, plus site work.


Responsibilities

* Undertaking investigations with both a geotechnical and an environmental content as directed by the Project Manager – seeing the Project through from commencement to completion.
* All project work must be carried out with due diligence, adhering to the relevant Technical and Operational procedures and completed within the given cost budgets and time scales agreed.
* Good communication is required to liaise directly with the Client periodically, providing regular updates and flagging up any issues or necessary changes to the scope and budget.
* It is expected that Consultant grade staff should be self‑motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.
* In addition to good technical and commercial understanding and ability, Consultant grade staff should also have a basic level of understanding of the principles of equality, diversity and inclusivity (EDI) and have an awareness of how RSK Geosciences staff can integrate sustainable development principles into their daily work.


Qualifications And Experience

* Typically requires at least a first degree in a relevant discipline and 2 years specific relevant experience.
* Staff seeking to move from Graduate to Consultant grade would be expected to be able to demonstrate significant further advances in professional abilities since graduating and be equipped to start to take on preparation of small‑scale tenders and full project management a small project, a number of small projects, or work as part of a large project team.
* Would typically have membership of the Geological Society of London or the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) and be working towards Chartered Geologist, Scientist or Environmentalist if not already attained, and be liaising with the relevant Head of Profession (HoP) and a mentor.
* Have understood and have read relevant legislation (e.g. HSG47, Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM 2015) and all relevant RSK Group safety control measures.
* Be comfortable with the preparation of project safety risk assessments, method statements and HASPs, undertaking research where necessary to complete.
* Be able to interpret geological maps and access geological data via the BGS website and other published sources to inform complex conceptual models for geotechnical and/or contamination purposes.
* Be able to interpret historical maps and other sources of historical information and use these to inform complex conceptual models.
* Be able to interpret hydrogeological / hydrological maps / hydrogeological data such as catchment management plans and understand how these are used to inform complex conceptual models.
* Have an understanding of water and gas sampling and monitoring techniques.
* Have a good understanding of waste management and regulatory framework.
* Have a basic knowledge of the relevant guidelines and codes of practice for the investigation and assessment of contaminated land to at least the GQRA stage and an understanding throughout the LC:RM process.
* Use the conceptual model to design the investigation and sampling strategy.
* Have a basic understanding and practical use of generic assessment criteria for human health, groundwater and surface water for all media (soil, groundwater, surface water, ground gas and soil gas) including appropriate statistical assessment and an understanding of the limitations of the criteria and what to do when the screening criteria are exceeded.
* Have a basic understanding of soil mechanics, if appropriate.
* Have an understanding of the purpose of basic geotechnical tests and commence learning to schedule them appropriately.
* Have a basic understanding of different foundation options available for structures.
* Be aware of RSK Geosciences’ sustainability/ ESG plans and targets, contribute to achieving them and engage with project teams and/or clients on integrating sustainability into projects as relevant to the role.
