We are recruiting for an experienced Director of Compliance to join a Social Housing organisation in West Yorkshire. This Director of Compliance role will lead landlord compliance, building safety, property safety and health and safety across a regulated housing portfolio.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for either an established Director of Compliance or a strong Head of Compliance ready to step into a Director level position.
The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight across gas, electrical, fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene, lifts, damp and mould, building safety and wider statutory compliance.

The role
As Director of Compliance, you will take overall responsibility for the organisation’s landlord compliance and building safety function. The Director of Compliance will ensure all statutory compliance areas are controlled, evidenced and reported clearly to senior leadership, Board and relevant stakeholders.
The role will focus on strengthening compliance assurance, improving reporting, reducing risk and ensuring residents live in safe, well managed homes. You will lead teams, manage contractors and provide clear direction across all major compliance workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the compliance strategy across gas, electrical, fire safety, asbestos, water hygiene, lifts and building safety
• Provide senior assurance on landlord compliance performance to Executive Team and Board
• Oversee statutory compliance programmes, servicing cycles, certification and remedial actions
• Lead Building Safety Act readiness and ongoing building safety compliance
• Strengthen compliance reporting, audit trails, risk registers and governance controls
• Manage contractor performance across specialist compliance contracts
• Ensure damp, mould and property safety risks are escalated and managed in line with legal duties
• Lead responses to internal audits, external audits, regulatory scrutiny and assurance reviews
• Work closely with Asset Management, Repairs, Property Services and Housing teams to improve resident safety
• Develop compliance policies, procedures and performance frameworks
• Lead, develop and support compliance teams through a period of improvement and change
• Use compliance data to identify risk, drive action and improve service performance
About you
• Experience operating as a Director of Compliance, Head of Compliance, Head of Building Safety or senior compliance leader within Social Housing
• Strong understanding of landlord compliance across gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, water hygiene and lifts
• Good knowledge of building safety, housing regulation and resident safety obligations
• Experience reporting to Executive Teams, Boards or senior governance groups
• Strong contractor management and compliance performance experience
• Able to lead teams, manage risk and improve compliance culture
• Confident managing audits, assurance frameworks and regulatory expectations
• Director level experience preferred, but strong Head of Compliance candidates ready to step up will be considered
