Senior Director of Technology (IT)
An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced and strategic IT leader to join as Snr Director, IT owning all major Systems.
This is a high-visibility executive leadership role. In addition, you'd be the Deputy to the CIO with a defined succession pathway.
Role Overview
Responsible for leading the strategy, governance, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of the organisation's major IT systems, including enterprise applications and development/engineering platforms.
The role carries full end-to-end accountability for ensuring that enterprise systems deliver measurable business and mission outcomes within agreed investment, risk, architecture, and security frameworks. The successful candidate will ensure systems remain reliable, scalable, secure, and commercially competitive, while driving operational efficiency and enabling innovation.
Working in close partnership with the Executive team, the Director will act as a strategic technology steward, preparing to assume full CIO accountability in due course.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Executive Leadership
Develop and execute strategy for major enterprise systems, aligning technology capabilities with organisational and mission objectives.
Serve as the primary technical steward to the Executive team, identifying and governing opportunities that enhance efficiency, data utilisation, and operational effectiveness.
Provide quarterly reporting to the Executive team on portfolio health, investment stewardship, risk, capacity, and value delivery within approved funding parameters.
End-to-End Lifecycle Ownership
Hold accountability for the full lifecycle of major applications and development programmes — from strategy and roadmap through delivery, operational handover, optimisation, and retirement.
Ensure disciplined delivery governance across enterprise-critical initiatives.
Governance & Operational Excellence
Establish clear delivery governance models, decision rights, and escalation pathways.
Lead through empowerment, intervening when agreed guardrails are exceeded.
Oversee system integrations, upgrades, and compliance with cybersecurity, data management, and enterprise IT standards.
Leadership & Team Development
Build and lead a high-performing, empowered IT team supporting complex system environments.
Drive continuous improvement across operations and service delivery.
Manage significant budgets, vendor relationships, and large-scale IT programmes.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
15+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5–8 years in senior leadership roles managing enterprise-scale systems and IT operations.
Proven ability to build and lead high-performing IT teams within complex environments.
Strong expertise in enterprise applications, system integration, modernisation, and optimisation initiatives.
Demonstrated success implementing IT governance, cybersecurity, and data management standards.
Preferred
Experience leading large-scale system modernisation and integration programmes.
Background in ERP, CRM, and development or engineering platforms.
Experience executing IT strategy within complex, multi-system enterprise landscapes.
Track record of enabling business growth through technology-driven transformation.
Experience managing substantial budgets, vendors, and enterprise portfolios.
