Main duties of the job

Are you a passionate Occupational Therapist eager to make a difference in dementia care?

Join our dedicated multidisciplinary team on the Bob Jakin ward at George Eliot Hospital, specialising in Care of the Elderly with a focus on Dementia.

About the Role:

As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in assessing, treating, educating, and planning discharges for patients on our designated Care of the Elderly ward. You will work closely alongside a skilled MDT, including Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants to deliver holistic, person-centred care.

This role offers you the opportunity to take a Senior therapy position and to support and develop our Dementia Services to improve patient outcomes and experiences.

Job responsibilities

* Undertake assessments, clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with a wide range of problems within care of the elderly. These patients often have complex and / or chronic presentations.
* To work as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant specialist clinical caseload, working without direct supervision.
* To take a role in supervision and teaching of junior qualified therapists and assistants .
* To demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to service development and monitoring of standards of practice
* To work flexibly over 7 day period, as the service requires

Person Specification


Qualification and Professional

* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with HCPC
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including recent attendance at relevant post-graduate courses
* BAOT
* Involvement /membership in Special Interest Group


Experience and Knowledge

* Minimum 18 months to 2 years post-graduate experience
* Previous experience in specialist clinical area
* Band 5 rotational experience
* Supervisory experience
* Contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff
* Previous Acute NHS experience


Skills and Abilities

* Understanding of clinical governance
* Importance in application of clinical governance in clinical area
* Highly developed physical skills including dexterity, coordination & sensory skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills including an ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive and contentious information
* Able to prioritise and organise own workload
* Able to cope with a range of complex options, find solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate course of action
* Able to work as part of an multi-disciplinary team
* IT skills - computer literate in email, Word & PowerPoint


Personal Qualities

* Evidence to support personal initiatives in supporting service delivery
* Able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout concurrent activities
* Motivated
* Flexible and adaptable
* Diplomatic and sensitive to others need
* To follow the Trusts values of EXCEL and COMPACT


Other

* Able to commit to flexible working and weekend working
* Driving license and access to motor vehicle for work purposes
