The Role
A Lead Personal Assistant (LPA) role has recently become available within Bright Green Light (BGL) - a bespoke family run support service.
The role of Lead Personal Assistant can be hugely rewarding for someone with the motivation and commitment towards improving the lives of a young people with Autism and learning difficulties. This role offers an opportunity to lead a dedicated staff team of 6 Personal Assistants (PAs) responsible for the 1-1, 24-hour support of an active and energetic young autistic man living in their own home in Radstock.
Purpose of the Role
Your work will effectively provide the management of individualised care and the continued development of the Support Plan. Working as part of a collaborative team focused on maximising the client’s independence and the achievement of their full potential.
Main Responsibilities
Ensure that the client is at the centre of everything you seek to achieve.
You will be responsible for the oversight and management of the Staff Duty Rota and the direction and motivation of the support team. This will include the smooth running of daily schedules such as community-based activities, attending medical appointments and social engagements.
The post entails working flexibly and your working schedule will be a mix of ‘hands on client support’ and administrative / management responsibilities. There will also be an expectation that you are available to take up ‘un-filled’ Bank- Holiday, Weekend and Sleep-in shifts within the shared On-call rota responsibilities.
Requirements
You will be empathetic, motivated and tolerant in your understanding of the specific needs of an autistic client. You will be leading a knowledgeable team of PA’s and supported by and working in collaboration with our experienced Manager in the delivery of the client’s Person Centred Support Plan. Your leadership will ensure the client continues to access their existing range of activities and that you will make every effort to develop and broaden these opportunities further. You will be using the clients’ own Motability vehicle, so a clean Driving License is required.
There is a fully equipped administrative and IT office in the client’s home and you will need to have a broad range of IT skills including the use of Word and Excel.
The role of Lead PA is varied and requires an enthusiastic person able to demonstrate an ability to prioritize the work of the staff team whilst responding calmly to a crisis.
