Job Title: Head of Design Technology

As Head of Design and Technology, you will lead the planning, delivery and development of the DT curriculum across the school. You will ensure that lessons are purposeful, engaging and well‑sequenced; that pupils develop strong practical skills and technical understanding; and that outcomes continue to improve.
You will be responsible for setting high expectations within the department, supporting colleagues, developing resources and ensuring that pupils experience a safe, ambitious and exciting DT education. You will also play an important role in promoting the subject across the school and encouraging pupils to see the opportunities DT can open for future study, apprenticeships, careers and wider life.
Key responsibilities
* Provide day‑to‑day leadership for the development and management of teaching within your area.
* Identify areas for development and improvement linked to the Academy improvement plan, SEF, national and local initiatives.
* Develop and monitor schemes of work for your area across the academy in liaison with your department to ensure the successful implementation which meets curriculum requirements and differentiates to reflect student needs.
* Have an overview of, and contribute to the planning and delivery of continuous professional development and training related to your area.
* Monitor and evaluate pupil progress and achievement against targets in your area.
Pay range
NJC M1-UPS3: £32,916 - £51,047 + TLR2c £8,611
Qualifications and Skills
* Qualified teacher status (QTS)
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Degree in subject specialism
* Effective classroom management
* Proven successful leadership within a similar setting
