Director @ Watt People Ltd. We assist manufacturing businesses in the UK and the USA in finding the right Engineering and Technical professionals to…
Take control of your work. Shape how things run.
This isn’t just about fixing what’s broken. It’s about being trusted to keep a critical site running safely, efficiently, and smoothly — while having the space and autonomy to do it your way.
You’ll be the go-to expert on all things electrical and instrumentation. From keeping essential systems online to solving complex technical challenges, you’ll make sure operations never miss a beat. No micromanagement, no endless admin — just hands-on engineering, real responsibility, and work you can be proud of.
Why this role might suit you
* Autonomy with impact – You’ll have ownership of your workload and the freedom to make the right technical decisions.
* Variety without chaos – From motors to instrumentation to cryogenic pumps, you’ll get your hands on diverse systems without being pulled in every direction at once.
* Early involvement – Be part of engineering projects from the start, shaping solutions instead of firefighting problems.
* Trusted expertise – You’re not just maintaining equipment — you’re influencing how the whole site operates.
What you’ll do
* Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical and instrumentation equipment to keep the site running safely and efficiently.
* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve faults before they cause disruption.
* Maintain and test instrumentation such as pressure and temperature gauges, flow meters, level indicators, and control valves.
* Oversee electrical contractors, ensuring safety and compliance through proper control and Permit to Work processes.
* Install, wire, and test new equipment, making sure everything integrates seamlessly.
* Maintain critical systems including motors, lighting, fire systems, cryogenic pumps, actuator valves, and filling equipment.
* Support improvement projects, from reducing energy losses to boosting productivity.
* Be part of the on-call rota to respond to breakdowns and keep customer service uninterrupted.
What you’ll bring
* A recognised qualification such as City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC, or ONC in Electrical (Instrumentation preferred too).
* 18th Edition BS7671:2018(2022) certification.
* COMPEX qualification for hazardous area installations.
* At least two years’ maintenance experience on a process plant, ideally in a chemical or similar environment.
* Confidence working with instrumentation, control systems, and electrical installations.
* Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
