Overview
Our team have been providing expert archaeological and heritage services for over 25 years, during which we have demonstrated our ability to provide commercially aware advice and effective delivery to a wide range of clients throughout the UK. Our post-ex hubs in Carlisle and Bury St Edmunds are home to our purpose-built facilities, which provide finds analysis, palaeoenvironmental processing and analysis, post-excavation analysis, publication, and outreach. We also have dedicated field teams in Carlisle, Bury St Edmunds, Birmingham and Bolton.
The role
We are looking for Field Archaeologists, Senior Field Archaeologists and Principal Archaeologists (permanent and casual). We have ongoing and upcoming fieldwork projects throughout the UK, including North Wales, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire.
Working arrangements & locations
For permanent staff, when not on site you will be expected to attend one of our offices on a hybrid basis. The offices are Bury St Edmunds, Carlisle, Birmingham, Bolton and Nottingham. Casual / temporary staff will be site based.
Ideal candidates
* Archaeologists with at least 3 months of site experience in commercial archaeology. You will work as part of our wider team, and you could be based on a variety of sites including large scale evaluations and excavations.
* Senior Archaeologists and Principal Archaeologists are required to supervise small to large teams and lead projects of varying complexity. They also support us with writing up reports, completing smaller scale reports (with support from our wider team), and making significant contribution to larger scale reporting. You should have or be willing to develop your report writing skills, working understanding of Harris Matrix software, and the ability to interpret your findings on site. You should be confident in your recording skills on site, and ideally have experience of working in both paper-based and digital recording systems. Knowledge of GIS recording and use GPS equipment is desirable.
Qualifications & requirements
* Practical experience or working on archaeological sites, a degree in Archaeology, and a valid driver’s license.
* Highly advantageous: CIfA membership at PCIfA or ACIfA level.
Travel, hours & benefits
Permanent staff must be flexible over travel and hours as we work on sites across the UK. We endeavour to offer staff work close to their home base wherever possible. A full driving licence and access to a car is required. For all staff we offer an excellent subsistence package in addition to travel allowance and single occupancy accommodation, plus 1.5x pay/TOIL for work carried out during unsocial hours (10pm - 6am).
