Description
The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the delivery of the UK/I Property and Terrorism & Terrorism plan, both from a written premium and a profitability perspective. Written premium includes Property and Terrorism income derived from all UKI Property and Terrorism monoline, package and Industry Practices policies and will therefore require engagement across all areas in which Property and Terrorism is written.
The requires close interaction with product line (COG) management and regional/branch managers to ensure appetite is understood and communicated, and underwriters are appropriately empowered to meet plan.
Working closely with regional managers, a key function is to ensure that rate, retention and new business numbers are planned and forecast accurately and that monthly production targets are met. Delivery and execution of the financial plan is a critical responsibility for this role. Also that accurate data is input into the annual planning process.
You will also be responsible for working with COG to agree appropriate underwriting strategy for the UK/I and updating local underwriting authorities to reflect this. You will be expected to track the market and monitor any developments (adverse or positive) and react accordingly.
As part of the portfolio management process, you will be required to work with actuarial to deliver the annual Portfolio Review and take responsibility for delivery of the action plan.
The role will also require a visible external profile. Primarily this will focus on driving retention and growth with brokers (National, Independent, Growth and New Ground) and engaging in appropriate account allocation and pipeline activity across all segments (Global and Middle Market, SME and DCI). An important secondary function is to raise Chubb's profile as an industry expert for Property and Terrorism. This will require a willingness and ability to speak at client, broker and industry forums.
You will be responsible for a team of underwriters and will need to bring appropriate leadership and management qualities to the role. This will include the requirement to manage people by distance and also to visit branches and work with regional managers and local underwriters as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
* Financial Goals. Responsibility for the delivery of the Property and Terrorism financial targets.
* Portfolio Integrity. Formulating underwriting strategy, forecasts and portfolio management in order to achieve underwriting profitability in conjunction with UKI CUO and COG Line of Business Head. To ensure quality control within defined area of responsibility by undertaking quantitative underwriting reviews, running regular management meetings and peer reviews
* Business Development. To proactively develop relationships with key brokers to ensure profitably grow the business, in conjunction with the local Business Development managers and other underwriting teams/managers.
* Producer Management. To proactively represent and promote Chubb corporately to brokers, internally and external clients. This may involve servicing key producers and clients, monitoring business acquisition and retention as well as pro-actively maximising cross-selling opportunities.
* Procedures. To meet company standards in respect of policy documentation, contract certainty and compliance and regulatory requirements
* Chubb Representative. To represent and promote Chubb, establish and maintain productive internal and external relationships, and act as a permanent contact with internal colleagues and clients as well as major domestic and overseas clients. Act as the senior representative from a trading perspective for Property and Terrorism and drive the strategic relationships at a trading and execution level with all of our brokers.
* Operational Management. Development and implementation of the business plan for the Property and Terrorism product lines. To assist with allocation of resources to meet business objectives and ensure external priorities and broker needs are constantly at the forefront of our decision making process. Defining roles for employees manage and review performance of other team members and to provide appropriate training/ mentoring support to other individuals in the direct and wider Chubb team as appropriate. Operate in an appropriately skilled and experienced manor to ensure that other underwriters in the team are able to maximise their potential.
* Leadership Responsibilities. Supports colleagues to drive the business. Responsible for the strategic and operational management of the team.
* Product Development. Responsible for developing and seeking out new opportunities for product within Property and Terrorism or as an adjunct to other product lines. Including appropriate market research, product development and marketing in conjunction with key stakeholders. Product development to also include the online product offering.
Qualifications
* Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of the Property & Terorrism product lines
* Strong portfolio management capabilities
* Strong people management and leadership skills
* Strong working knowledge of the insurance market and competitors
* Solid experience of dealing with brokers and clients
* Results driven with ability to make own decisions and work on own initiative
* An experienced professional whose expertise is recognised externally
* Being able to demonstrate examples of strategy development and delivery would be desirable
* Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally
* Expected to have ACII qualification, and/or degree level education
