Role Description This is a full-time, remote Mobile Road Rail Plant Fitter role, involving travel to client sites, depots, and operational locations as required. The role includes carrying out planned maintenance, inspections, and servicing on road-rail plant and associated equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and safety standards. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults, perform repairs, replace components, and test machinery to ensure it is safe and compliant for use on both road and rail. Daily tasks include preparing service reports, maintaining accurate records of work completed, and coordinating with operations teams to minimize downtime. You will also support breakdown call-outs, provide technical guidance to operators, and uphold all health, safety, and environmental procedures while working independently in the field.
Qualifications
* Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance skills, ideally with experience on heavy plant, construction, or rail machinery.
* Ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems on mobile plant, including fault-finding and basic electrics on 12V/24V and control systems.
* Proficient in conducting inspections, routine servicing, and preventative maintenance in line with manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
* Competence in reading technical drawings, manuals, and service documentation, and completing clear, accurate maintenance reports.
* Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental practices, particularly in rail or construction environments.
* Comfortable working independently in the field, managing time, travel, and priorities across multiple sites.
* Relevant technical qualification (e.g., NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent in Plant, Mechanical Engineering, or similar) or equivalent experience.
* Full valid driving license and willingness to travel to sites, sometimes at short notice or outside standard hours.
* Previous experience in road-rail plant, rail infrastructure, or heavy mobile plant is advantageous but not essential.
* Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach when interacting with clients, operators, and colleagues.
