Role Overview
You will be required to assist qualified nurses, radiographers and radiologists in giving a high standard of quality care to our patients and will support the team in the smooth running of the department. You will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, maintaining a professional and caring manner. You must be experienced in coordinating lists / clinics / procedure planning and working with multidisciplinary teams. Good IT skills and the ability to learn new speciality-specific systems are essential.
Previous experience in a Radiology Department is desirable but not essential.
Full‑time hours will likely involve varied shift patterns of 11.5 and 7.5 hours between 8 am and 8 pm. You will be rota’d through multiple modalities, including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X‑ray, Interventional Radiology (including recovery and co‑ordination of urgent bookings).
Key Responsibilities
* Actively and safely participate as a member of the Imaging team and contribute towards the smooth and efficient running of the department.
* Assist the nurses, sonographers, radiographers and radiologists in giving individualised care to patients and managing patient flow effectively.
* Provide excellent service to patients with respect and compassion, supported by effective communication and patient‑focused care skills.
* Support the Imaging team by supervising the safe deployment of staff and co‑ordinating clinics using excellent communication skills, liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
* Assist inpatient and day‑case patients and radiologists during interventional ultrasound guidance procedures such as liver biopsy, ascitic drainage, etc.
* Assist radiologists and advanced practitioner radiographers during fluoroscopy procedures, ensuring smooth running of the lists, patient care and preparation, liaising with wards, preparing the room, and tidying and appropriate cleaning after procedures.
* Correctly identify and prepare patients for the range of invasive procedures.
* Implement patient safety checks before invasive procedures to ensure the correct preparation of patients prior to their procedure (checking blood results, fasting status, baseline observations, clotting profiles and relevant medical history).
* Escalate anomalies from the safety checks promptly to the radiologist or registered nurse to enable timely correction or re‑scheduling of the procedure.
* Accurately monitor and record a patient’s vital signs post‑procedure, checking and documenting vital signs to Trust standard and reporting anomalies to a registered nurse or radiologist.
* Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from imaging procedures, caring for them physically with attention to activities such as intake of food and drink, toileting, getting dressed and assisted mobility.
* Welcome and maintain effective communication with patients and relatives, explaining procedures and giving accurate advice during recovery and post‑discharge.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
* Applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same role (Band 3 HCA within the NHS) to meet the salary requirements to qualify for sponsorship.
* Previous NHS or NHS primary care experience with a Care Certificate from an Ofqual regulated awarding organisation is essential.
* Internationally educated nurse/midwife/doctor who has worked in an acute hospital setting within recent years with evidence of your degree verified by an ENIC report is also acceptable.
* Please ensure to attach your Care Certificate and/or ENIC report to your application as this will be required for interview.
