Overview

It is an exciting time to join as the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner across urgent and emergency care. We are on a journey to transform care delivery at our front door, with great success in improving our waiting times and overall performance.

But we have more to do and to enable this we are recruiting a lead to take forward the strategic direction of enhanced and advanced practice, leading a team of qualified and trainee ACPs alongside the ENP workforce to ensure that we have the right workforce with the right skills to provide the highest standards of care for our patients and their families.

You will work in partnership with a dynamic, forward thinking leadership team, comprising of a Consultant lead, Nurse Consultant, Lead Nurse and General Manager.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will be essential in the leadership of Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioners and trainees in the Emergency Department. Supporting our Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine, EM Consultants and General Manager the post holder will take responsibility for the development of the ACP team ensuring expert guidance and training is provided both to qualified and trainee practitioners to support clinical decision making within ED. This involves acting as a catalyst for change in practice and service development, challenging professional and organisational boundaries and generating new solutions that best meet the needs of staff and patients. The post holder will work at an expert level across the 5 recognised domains of the Lead ACP role, these being Clinical, Education, Strategy, Clinical Leadership and Research.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification – Essential

* First level degree (HEI level 5 or 6) or equivalent in the undergraduate base profession
* NMC or HCPC registration
* Masters in Advanced Practice or equivalent, which maps across the 4 pillars
* Qualified as a non-medical prescriber (if able under professional registration)
* Post-graduate management and / or leadership training
* Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of PSIRF and the overall governance agenda
* Demonstrates a comprehensive appreciation of the NHS 10 year plan and workforce strategy for ACP
* Accreditation as an ACP or willingness to work towards
* Evidence of continuing professional development - including further level 7 modules that support practice
* Qualification in teaching
* Evidence of previous involvement in research
* ALS qualification
* ALS instructor

Experience – Essential

* Significant post-registration experience at ACP level
* Experience in complex case management
* Significant experience working in UEC
* Experience working independently at Advanced practice level
* Excellent clinical acumen and practical procedural skills (with evidence of competency and capability) as an independent practitioner
* Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and experience of clinical examination, hx taking, pharmacology, pathophysiology etc
* Experience of instigating and interpreting investigations and initiating appropriate plans of care for patients.
* Experience of multi-agency / multi-disciplinary team working across service interfaces
* Evidence of teaching and sharing knowledge with others in the MDT or externally to organisation.
* Demonstration of leadership in clinical practice
* Evidence of involvement of audit/quality improvement/successful change management
* Excellent effective verbal and written communication skills
* Highly motivated and have the ability to motivate others
* Ability to effectively prioritise workload
* Ability to educate and supervise others in the promotion of high standards of patient care
* Commitment to training and continuous development of self and others
* Ability to appraise evidence, using analytical and problem-solving skills to inform decision-making, and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
* Demonstrable evidence of research capability or the application of research evidence to own clinical practice
* Ability to communicate highly complex information situations including where there are barriers to understanding.
* Evidence of previous input at strategic level
* Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
* Evidence of successful change management
* Ability to influence and act at all levels within the organisation
* Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
* Ability to identify, develop and implement risk management and clinical governance systems at an expert level.
* Computer literate - word, excel, PowerPoint
* Experience in identifying and planning multidisciplinary training and development.

* Ability to travel across hospital sites
