Overview
The Phlebotomist will support the team, department and organisation to achieve the Trust's Values in day-to-day work by providing a venepuncture service to local patients. The post holder will ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for service users and will work under the direction of the Locality Manager.
Responsibilities
* Obtain venous blood samples from patients in accordance with trust guidelines.
* Label specimen bottles accurately and place samples in appropriately labelled bottles and packaging for transporting to the relevant laboratory.
* Conduct all procedures with awareness of individual needs and in accordance with patient confidentiality.
* Record appropriately in the patient\'s electronic records in line with trust policy.
* Approach the patient with courtesy and provide an appropriate explanation of the procedure; obtain appropriate consent for the procedure being carried out.
* Recognise and respond appropriately to an emergency situation.
* Ensure stock levels are maintained for the phlebotomy team.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Must hold a full valid driving licence; access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).
* Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment and demonstrate caring, courteous communication.
* Experience delivering high quality patient care within a phlebotomy setting is desirable but not specified in the original description.

* In addition to the basic salary, this post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of £1,136 per annum.
