We currently have a great opportunity to join Thames Water as a Slow Sand Filter Operator. This will be working out of our Water Production Sites at Ashford Common and Kempton Park.
You will be working in a small, dedicated team responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Slow Sand Filters (SSF) at our Water Treatment Works, to ensure the highest levels of clean drinking water to supply our customers.
Details:
* Base Location: West London - Ashford Common (TW151RU) & Kempton Park (TW136XH)
* Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Thursday/Friday 07:30- 16:17 on a 9-day working fortnight, which means you will get Friday off every 2 weeks.
* A full UK driving license is required.
Responsibilities:
* Perform routine checks, maintenance, and operate mobile plant to ensure service delivery to standards.
* Key tasks include skimming filters, removing/relaying granular activated carbon (GAC), and resanding SSFs.
* Operate specialist mobile plants, including sand skimmers, loading shovels, dumpers, and excavators. Also operate the Floatex plant (Sand Washer), GAC separation plants, and mobile crane.
* Maintain site housekeeping, conduct plant checks, and perform maintenance tasks.
* Follow legal and company health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
Candidate Requirements:
* Experience in machinery-based or manual labour roles is desirable.
* Self-motivated, disciplined, eager to learn, and possess a can-do attitude.
* Ownership of fault response, curiosity to understand problems, and problem-solving skills.
* Motivated with high standards.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Basic literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.
* Willingness to undergo safety training.
* Preferably hold or be willing to obtain a 7-tonne dumper license.
* Experience with 360 Excavator, Loading Shovel, and Sand Skimmer is an advantage but can be obtained during training.
