You will need to be an experienced nurse with leadership skills and experience, as you will be expected to manage the Endoscopy unit effectively and provide clinical leadership to the nursing team. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for leading and developing the nursing team. You will possess excellent communication and organisational skills and also provide a visible role model within the unit.
Experience of endoscopy is essential.
A key feature of the role is ensuring that the unit provides the highest standards of patient care and achieves national targets to meet service need and ensure JAG accreditation.

The Endoscopy manager (Senior sister/charge nurse) has overall responsibility for the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within the department or by their team

We have 2 endoscopy rooms on the Chorley site.
Some examples of the procedures we do in the unit include:
1. GI procedures including: OGD/colonoscopy/flexible sigmoidoscopy/Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)/Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).
2. As part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) we undertake FOBt lists.
3. Diagnostic bronchoscopies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Endoscopy manager (Senior sister/charge nurse) has overall responsibility for the provision of excellent care for the patients, relatives and visitors who attend the Endoscopy unit.
To ensure the provision of excellent care with compassion the Endoscopy manager (Senior sister/charge nurse) is responsible for:
4. Ensuring that the nursing team and care support team within their department are adequately resourced and organised.
5. Ensuring the nursing team and care support team are adequately supported and developed to deliver excellent care with compassion in line with the Trust’s Values & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework.
6. Leading and developing the Endoscopy nursing team and support teams by being a visible and strong role model providing leadership and direction to the team; capitalising on research and development opportunities; providing clinical supervision and advice for staff and students in order to support them in reaching their full potential.
7. Ensuring the productive operation of the Endoscopy departments through the monitoring and maintenance of standards that create a safe, clean and organised environment and by using processes designed to increase the time nurses spend in therapeutic contact with patients.
8. Ensuring that equipment is decontaminated in line with National decontamination guidelines.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
9. Appropriate NMC registration.
10. Mentorship qualification.
11. Post registration qualifications relevant to the role.
12. Successful completion of a leadership and development programme equivalent to the Internal Band 6 Leadership and development programme.
13. Diploma or degree in nursing.
Desirable criteria
14. Level 4 ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) or equivalent
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
15. Able to perform clinical duties commensurate to that of the role e.g. endoscopy procedures, IV medications, cannulation
16. Evidence of clinical competence in area of speciality ie. endoscopy
17. Ability to implement changes within nursing practice
18. Knowledge of clinical governance and safeguarding and the relevance of these to practice
19. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
20. Experience of and detailed understanding of decontamination standards
21. Experience of managing a clinical area

22. Knowledge of the PDPR process
23. Evidence of working at Band 7
24. Experience of budgetary management
25. Knowledge of ethical issues
26. Experience of leading the preparation for JAG accreditation
