Job Description for Laundry Operative
Key Duties
1. Monitor and manage incoming laundry, including the recording/booking-in of items associated with customers.
2. Unpack and categorise incoming items.
3. Check incoming items for stains/marks and treat with appropriate chemicals.
4. Check incoming hire items for wear and damage, reporting anything considered to be significant and that would jeopardise Elite's reputation for quality.
5. Load washing machines and dryers in a timely manner, managing the flow of items from washers to dryers and then on to the ironing/finishing staff or folding/packing room. Each week there is a time plan which records items that need to be ready for deliveries and the loading of the machines together with the flow of items is crucial in ensuring that delivery times are met.
6. The preparation of all items ready for packaging. For example towels folded and stacked in Elite laundry bags, cloths folded and bagged ready for delivery.
7. The correct labelling of all bags leaving the laundry that are ready for delivery – this is using the Elite labelling system.
8. The checking of all laundered items for marks/damage that have been missed first time and/or have not been removed through the wash process. Such items need to be treated accordingly and processed through the laundry again.
9. The checking of all hire items to ensure that they are clearly marked with the ELLS initials on labels. If not present or wearing faint, then re-mark the items with the appropriate laundry pens provided or report to a manager.
10.Regular cleaning of all washing machines to ensure that drums are clean, doors are clean, drawers (for powder/softener liquid) are clean and free of black mould, outside of washing machines are clean. This should be carried out every other day.
11.Regular servicing of the dryers – emptying condenser water containers to ensure machines don't stop mid-cycle and waste time, cleaning fluff catchers in the door area, cleaning main filters in the machines.
12.Vacuuming the laundry carpets on a regular basis to ensure powder, fluff and debris from dirty items unpacked does not lie about on the floor.
13.Regular cleaning of laundry tubs that hold the pooled hire linen – bits and dirt can gather quite quickly in these tubs due to constant use.
1. The unpacking of new items of linen from suppliers, checking and marking with the ELLS initials for identification purposes.
2. Any other duties deemed appropriate and necessary by the manager and commensurate with the post.
