Overview
At AtkinsRéalis, one of the world’s leading multi-disciplinary consultancy firms for engineering, design, and construction, we offer unparalleled opportunities for talented individuals seeking a rewarding career. Here we provide more than just a job; we offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world for future generations and the environment.
Working within Nuclear and Power, Power New Build group, you will be an integral part of delivering exciting large nuclear new build projects such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, and other major upcoming prospects.
As a Spare Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the future of HPC (Hinkley Point C). You will be part of a dynamic team delivering strategic solutions for spare parts management, obsolescence, and standardisation—critical to the success of one of the UK’s most significant nuclear projects.
Your role
As a Spare Engineer, you will be part of the CommOps Supply Chain Team, embedded within the HPB CommOps Department Maintenance Programme. This team is responsible for executing maintenance strategies for HPC during both the project phase and future plant operations.
Your work will focus on delivering key elements of the Spares Engineering Work Scope, including:
* Development and delivery of spares strategies across all HPC systems.
* Implementation of the obsolescence strategy.
* Procurement and oversight of strategic and non‑strategic spare parts.
* Standardisation of spares across HPC.
* Collaboration with stakeholders and disciplines to ensure alignment with commissioning and maintenance programme needs.
You will be based out of our Bristol and Bridgwater offices, with potential travel to the HPC site as required. This is a hybrid role, offering flexibility to combine remote and office‑based work.
Responsibilities
* Producing technical reviews recommending procurement of spare parts for mechanical, electrical, and I&C equipment.
* Managing equipment obsolescence during the project phase and recommending engineering solutions.
* Developing and implementing processes for spares management during both project and operational phases.
* Leading procurement of strategic spares, including technical reporting, manufacturing oversight (e.g., FATs, RRMs), and delivery coordination.
* Managing the standardised spares list to ensure timely delivery aligned with commissioning and maintenance schedules.
* Maintaining technical and functional interfaces with HPC departments, EPR Family Stations, and EDF Energy’s existing nuclear business.
* Researching and applying operating experience from wider industries to enhance HPC performance.
About You
* A degree or diploma in Engineering (or a related discipline) is preferred; however, equivalent experience or qualifications in a relevant field will also be considered.
* 1+ years' experience in a similar role (nuclear experience not essential).
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Proficiency in Excel / Data Management and the ability to interpret technical drawings and reports.
* Experience working in a project environment, with exposure to suppliers and customers (UK and international).
* Excellent technical report writing skills, especially for business cases.
* Willingness to travel occasionally to supplier and client facilities.
* A proactive, self‑motivated approach with a desire to take ownership and responsibility.
