About The Team The Governance team provides strategic support, co-ordination and guidance on the development and operation of force governance, audit and risk frameworks. This team also leads and assures the Force’s approach to external police authority governance, and internal policies and procedures. About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Governance Officer to join the Governance Team which operates within the Strategy, Planning & Service Improvement department. The post-holder will play a pivotal part in providing effective and proactive support to the governance boards that fall within the corporate and external governance framework of the City of London Police. Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to work closely with Chairs of Boards on agenda setting, action monitoring, attend meetings, take minutes, research activities and draft briefing papers. The post-holder will also assist the Governance Manager in developing and delivering an efficient and effective corporate governance framework. Responsibilities In this role, you will be: Service the City of London Police’s corporate governance framework by arranging, attending and establishing an accurate record of decisions taken at various governance boards at corporate and directorate levels, including taking administrative action arising from any meeting. Develop effective working relationships with chairs of relevant governance boards to advise and support them through the meeting process, and to be the first point of contact for all queries from them concerning the operation of the board. Be responsible for preparing and coordinating agendas for meetings, ensuring that agendas and reports have been suitably consulted on, are quality assured and consistently presented to high standards and in accordance with corporate templates. Support the servicing of police authority board and its committees, ensuring timely submission and quality assurance of papers and processes for corporate approval have been undertaken, drafting briefing notes and attending meetings when required. To provide cover for the work of colleagues within the executive support function as required and develop a good understanding of the team’s wider activities and objectives. Requirements For this role, we need you to have experience of: Experience of working in a public sector environment or other such organisation within a governance context. Experience of drafting written work such as reports, briefing papers and minutes to a high standard. Experience of working under pressure, often to defined timescales. Experience of agenda planning and drafting minutes and actions for strategic boards. Experience of implementing governance processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of corporate decision making. This vacancy is open only to those who have the right to work in the UK.
