About the role

We have an incredible opportunity for you to join our Water Networks team as a Crew Lead/Ganger – Water Mains Operative in our Teesside, Teesdale, and North Yorkshire operating region in the Northeast of England. Whether you know this role as Lead Ganger, Lead Utilities Operative, or Lead Civils Worker, this is your chance to take the lead and make a real difference.

As the Crew Lead, you’ll oversee your work site and be accountable for your crew’s achievements, playing a vital role in ensuring a clean, clear, and reliable supply of drinking water to our local communities. Your responsibilities will include carrying out repair and maintenance tasks on our underground network of water mains, services, and assets, directly contributing to the delivery of essential services.

You’ll lead by example, delivering outstanding service to our customers and communities while protecting the local environment. About you

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced individual to join our team, where you’ll bring your expertise and enthusiasm to deliver outstanding results.

You’ll have a proven track record of working safely in an operational environment, including carrying out excavations, repairs, and installations to an exceptional standard. Your hands-on knowledge of mains isolations, environmental mitigation procedures, and the requirements of the Disinfection Code of Practice will set you apart. With experience in operating and directing the use of plant and equipment, you’ll ensure compliance with permit conditions at all times.

As a natural problem solver and excellent role model, you’ll take initiative to organise your time, materials, and resources efficiently. Your passion for making a difference to customers and ability to engage and connect with people will shine through. You’ll be inquisitive, eager to learn, and ready to develop your skills further.

This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked

Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment
