Role Description

A rare opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team here at Cardiff. This is an exciting time to join our business as it continues to grow and evolve following a £60 million investment into our Cardiff site. The Cardiff site has the prestigious status of being the Juice Centre of Excellence.


Job Purpose

Reporting to the Site Head of Operations, and part of the SLT, you will be responsible for planning, resourcing, controlling and coordinating all aspects of engineering and asset management through direct reports, delivering optimum equipment performance efficiency as part of the overall site’s performance measures, all implemented and executed within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, observing site policies and procedures. You will uphold Engineering standards across the site, plan, execute and deliver the Capital portfolio plan, and work closely with Group Engineering and OPEX/Continuous Improvement functions to align with the Group Manufacturing philosophy and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of capital works.

Although the role is site based, it is part of a business that recognises the need for change with major growth ambitions and welcomes expansion both in the UK and overseas. You must be flexible and provide support as needed to capitalize on arising opportunities.

Working Hours

This is a Monday – Friday, 08.45 – 17.00 position; flexibility may be required given the nature of the role.


Key Responsibilities

* Safety, Quality, Hygiene – Undertake duties safely while considering Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which form part of the Integrated Management System.
* Ensure work undertaken conforms to legislative requirements and embraces a culture of safe behaviour and contractor health and safety within production and engineering areas.
* Support a culture that enhances behavioural awareness to reduce accidents, incidents and near misses.
* Asset Management – Develop efficient and effective asset care programs, standardise the approach across both sites, and ensure maintenance systems align with the Group PMS Roadmap & the Maturity Matrix site development tool.
* Develop asset care strategy, building on existing systems, driving the transition from reactive to proactive with targets of 80% of Engineering work planned, 20% of engineering time on day-to-day running, and 85% known utilisation of engineers.
* Ensure the cost of maintenance is transparent, known and within expectations.
* Develop SAP PM and other systems to drive planning, control and focused improvements.
* Create, implement and manage both maintenance and capital expenditure budgets for the site, utilising Princes methodology and Group support.
* Stores Management – Develop effective materials management with optimized levels of spares and stock accuracy, manage engineering stores in line with Princes Group guidelines, review supplier base, and drive continuous improvement in working capital.
* Services and Energy Management – Manage site facilities, ensure statutory compliance, maintain best practice environmental impact, and apply KPI frameworks for Water, Air, Gas, Electricity, and Steam.
* Electrical Management – Ensure electrical standards comply with current legislation and Princes group standards, and manage the site Electrical duty holder as a direct report.
* Engineering Management – Drive operating standards of manufacturing assets across the site, manage minor capital investment, avoid obsolescence, maintain speed plate-rated standards of machinery, manage labour levels to meet output expectations, and drive performance efficiency as part of OEE.
* Manufacturing Systems Engineering Management – Use SAP data for decision making and future planning, support MES development, manage EMS, and develop energy monitoring.
* Capital Plan Management – Plan, execute and manage the Capital plan for the site, contributing to forward strategy, and manage capital projects from concept through to sign-off.
* Prepare, enable work, install, commission, train and conduct performance trials.
* Undertake technical and equipment benchmarking where appropriate, ensure compliance with Group Engineering standards and legislation, and uphold engineering standards.
* Raise and approve capital purchase orders, authorise invoice payment through SAP, manage project costs within agreed budgets.
* Continuous Improvement – Promote and drive GMP & RCA, review performance, implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency, and manage projects to completion on time and budget.
* People – Recruit, train and manage the engineering workforce, develop team members, align resources to strategy, assess and develop the team, challenge practices, motivate staff, conduct performance reviews, foster ownership of facilities, and align with Princes guidelines on performance management.
* Technical Leadership – Provide SLT level technical support, apply best practice, and develop specialist technical skills to support factory KPIs.
* Communication – Work closely with peers across the senior leadership team, group engineering, purchasing, marketing and other departments, and maintain consistent best practice across sites.

Experience Required

* Ideally Chartered or working towards a Chartership within the relevant professional engineering institution.
* Graduate or of Graduate calibre, ideally with a further engineering qualification; hands‑on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
* Demonstrable track record of achieving results and managing change.
* Strong operational grounding within a complex fast‑moving manufacturing environment.
* Experienced in implementing World Class Manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
* Track record of leadership in the planning and implementation of capital investment in production facilities.
* Experience delivering results against financial targets, service levels and safety standards.
* Good working knowledge of SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience of managing people and dealing with Trade Unions.
* Experience of operating utilities plant and project management.
* Practical electrical engineering experience, including legislation.
* Experience managing all aspects of Automation and relevant support teams.
