We provide water to 1.4 million customers and treat the sewage of 2.9 million customers. Our Scientists help ensure we protect the environment, improve performance and comply with regulatory requirements efficiently and safely.
This role will see you working with multiple teams and travelling to different sites across the entire Wessex Water region, which covers Bristol, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Bridgwater and everything in between.
What you'll do
As a Regional Process Scientist, you will work with people across the wastewater business to monitor and improve our environmental performance.
You will cover all areas of performance and compliance within Wastewater Treatment, including leading our Root Cause Analysis of incidents to monitor trends, identify areas for improvement and help implement the solutions.
This will involve strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and a good understanding of root cause analysis. You will be part of a small team to become an integral part of the investigation and analysis process, following environmental incidents and improving performance.
This is a dynamic, varied role that will include
* leading root cause analysis meetings following incidents
* identifying solutions and areas for improvement on small and large scales
* designing and implementing initiatives to improve performance
* monitoring and reporting on environmental performance and improvements
* providing information for regulatory requirements
* analysing scientific data to provide actionable insights
* collaborating with people across the business to ensure consistency and promote cross-team learning
* delivering basic training on root cause analysis processes.
What you'll need
We are looking for a self‑motivated individual who has a passion for understanding why things happen and using data to identify ways of improving them.
You should be comfortable working both independently and collaborating with multiple teams.
The role will require excellent communication skills and the ability to provide constructive challenge to both processes and people at all levels.
In addition, it is desirable to have:
* a degree (or equivalent experience) in Science or an environmental subject
* IT literacy
* strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes
* an understanding of the wastewater regulator environment
* the ability to interpret and analyse scientific
* experience presenting technical data to senior leaders
* a full driving licence.
