Overview
This is a full time 10 PA Locum Consultant Radiologist post to cover a general Radiology service across all trust sites, including CT, MRI and Ultrasound, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests. The successful applicant will join a team of Consultant Radiologists providing a general radiological service and will work cross-site, participating in the out-of-hours rota (evening and weekend cover). Overnight CT services are outsourced.
The post holder will be required to hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists and a CCT in Radiology or equivalent training and experience.
Main duties / Responsibilities
Locum Consultant Radiologist 1WTE (General Radiology)
Apply for the Locum Consultant Radiologist position at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. There is 1 full‑time post (10 Programmed Activities). The radiologist will be competent to cover conventional radiology, Ultrasound, CT, MRI and on-call cover. The appointee will work with the Clinical Lead and colleagues to oversee high-quality clinical services, lead training and audit, and participate in the out-of-hours rota. The department outsources overnight CT services.
Applicants are expected to have the FRCR or equivalent and be on the GMC specialist register or within six months of obtaining CCT.
Out-of-hours extended working (evening and weekends) is part of the post. The successful candidate will participate in cross-site duties as required.

Job Plan / Provisional duties
This proposed plan is for a 10 PA post with 8 Direct Clinical Care sessions (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, biopsies, plain film reporting) and 1 session for unpredictable on-call. There are 2 sessions for Professional Activities. The job plan is indicative and will be finalised on appointment, with annual review and potential for additional programmed activities as service needs arise.
Job plans will be reviewed annually following appraisal. The Clinical Director will finalise the plan on appointment. The plan covers clinical work, teaching, research, education, managerial responsibilities and external commitments.
The post holder will be expected to travel between working sites as required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* Medical qualification registered with the GMC
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT
* FRCR or equivalent
Desirable
* MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research
Clinical Experience
* High standard of clinical skill across all modalities; able to contribute to the full range of general radiological skills and participate in the on-call rota
* Experience in CT and MRI is desirable
Management & Administration
* Audit/Research; maintenance of Clinical Governance; ability to manage in-patient and out-patient waiting lists; participation in training and supervision of trainees
* Desirable: familiarity with service organisation and development
Teaching & Research
* Experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees; ability to teach clinical skills; opportunity to supervise postgraduate research; publications in peer-reviewed journals are desirable
