Offer description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children who are placed in local authority foster care?

As a Family Time Worker, you’ll play a critical role in supporting children to understand their birth identity and supervising their time with birth parents. We’re looking for people with the skills to encourage and help maintain positive relationships between children and parents. We work with very vulnerable children, so maintaining professional relationships while managing complex family needs and behaviours is essential.

You'll play a vital role in supporting families to spend quality time together. Our aim during family time is to promote positive and meaningful interactions for children with their family. This could include offering support, guidance, and parenting advice or modelling positive interactions and behaviours. Family time workers are required to transport children around the county and further afield. This role will be based at Tamworth Children's Centre.

Main Responsibilities

* Facilitate therapeutic family time between children and their parents or other family members.
* Coordinate arrangements for family time as directed by court.
* Transport children and young people to attend family time.
* Provide parenting support and guidance during family time.
* Support the completion of accurate documentation, reports, and records related to children, young people, and families.
* Be available outside traditional working patterns, including evenings and weekends, to support children, families, and carers when needed.

The Ideal Candidate

Along with a passion for helping children and their families, you will need:

* A minimum NVQ Level 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience.
* Experience of direct work with children, families, and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency.
* Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft packages.
* An understanding of child development and the impact of stress and trauma.
* Knowledge of policies, guidance, and legislation governing children’s social care.
* Unrestricted use of a car and a valid driving licence.
* Flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends.
* Effective communication skills with children, families, and carers.
* Ability to build relationships and deliver interventions, including in conflict situations.

This role is currently under review regarding weekend working arrangements, including any paid enhancements.

Interested? If you’re unsure whether your skills and experience meet the role’s needs, please contact us. We’d love to chat! Reach out to Emma Hawkins, Family Time Lead, at emma.hawkins1@staffordshire.gov.uk.

Interviews are expected to take place during the week beginning 22nd September 2025.
