Project Manager – Water Utilities

The project:
Our client is one of the largest water companies in the UK, responsible for water and wastewater services in the northwest of England. Their purpose is to deliver their services in an environmentally sustainable, economically beneficial, and socially responsible manner and create sustainable long-term value for all.

As a construction manager, you will be part of a team and work within the capital delivery portfolio of the client’s security enhancement projects. You will be part of a collaborative environment interacting positively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The role will ensure the client’s project governance procedures are followed including risk, cost and change control and will work collaboratively with other teams across the business to deliver the projects.
You’ll be responsible for:
1. Collaborative work and interaction with multi-disciplined project teams, ie. site personnel, design, technology services, alarm monitoring centre, SE Maintenance, contractors and suppliers
2. To present innovation wherever possible in support of the accepted solution.
3. Understanding the CNI Categorisations that determine the level of security required per site.
4. Participation in reviews within the projects lifecycle: security protection solution definition, construction, commissioning and handover phases
5. Following company H&S policy and procedures
6. Undertaking regular site inspections and reviews during the construction phase
7. Checking contractor RAMS and responsibility for issuing Work Authorisation and Permits to Work for all activities undertaken
8. Organising of HAZOP, HAZCON, progress and commissioning meetings
9. Owning projects throughout the project lifecycle from definition to handover and closeout
10. Integration and commissioning of the site alarm monitoring configuration into the central alarm management system database
11. Ensuring compliance with the requirements of project: environmental, CDM 2015, health and safety, water quality and environmental standards, to security protection levels and to WIMES, and statutory legislation
12. Having a good understanding of the water sites’ security hardening and detection requirements and systems to ensure adequate level of protection is provide
13. Managing contractors to ensure that the execution of projects is undertaken to the satisfaction of our client
14. Supporting the contractor in generating the Asset register and reviewing the Asset Registration De-Registering Documentation/Submissions
You’ll need to have:

You will ideally be qualified to degree level or equivalent in engineering or construction, although a person with several years’ experience in designing, installing and commissioning complex industrial security systems would be considered for the role. You will have completed the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course.
16. You will work seconded to the client, working in the northwest of England. Although the main HQ is based in Warrington, you will also be required to travel to multiple sites. Water sector experience is preferred although experience within a regulated infrastructure environment will also be considered.
17. A Full UK Driving Licence essential.
You’ll also have:
18. You will be digitally savvy and have familiarity in using a project and programme tools such as Oracle. Working knowledge of security detection, video surveillance systems would be an advantage, and having used or being familiar with a central alarm monitoring system (Datalog or similar) would be advantageous.
19. You can build lasting client relationships and lead strong, motivated teams. You will be experienced in managing large or multiple infrastructure/capital projects in a consultancy background, preferably within the water utility sector, and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
