Role: Student Advisor
Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £27,717 and £32,515 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave (Pro-Rata) plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 20 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Part Time

About the role:
We are currently seeking a Student Advisor to join our Student Services department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Student Advisor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Careers Advice, Guidance & Student Support – Deliver high‑quality, impartial careers information, advice and guidance to students and applicants, supporting progression, aspiration‑raising and positive destinations across all College sites.
2. Pastoral, Financial & Welfare Guidance – Provide a personalised support service covering wellbeing, safeguarding, bursaries and financial advice, making referrals where appropriate and ensuring students receive timely, accurate guidance.
3. Careers Programme & Employer Engagement – Contribute to the design, delivery and evaluation of a cross‑college careers programme, delivering 1:1 and group sessions, researching progression routes and supporting UCAS and HE processes.
4. Collaboration, Data & Professional Representation – Work closely with curriculum teams, external agencies and support services, collect and report service data, support staff development, and represent the College at internal and external events.
5. Professional Standards, Safeguarding & College Contribution – Uphold safeguarding, EDI and health & safety requirements, maintain accurate records, deliver excellent customer service, and contribute flexibly to enrolment, events and college‑wide priorities in line with TBCG values.
About you:
6. Communication, Engagement & Customer Service – Confident communicator able to engage professionally with students, staff and external stakeholders, delivering a friendly, approachable service with a strong customer‑focused ethos.
7. Administration, Organisation & Accuracy – Highly organised with excellent administrative skills, able to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines, produce formal and informal correspondence, and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
8. Teamwork, Leadership & Initiative – Effective team player with the ability to motivate others, develop teams, solve problems proactively and contribute positively across the whole College environment.
9. Experience, IT Skills & Events Management – Proven experience working with adults and young people (1:1 and groups), organising events and activities, and using IT systems including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
10. Qualifications, Flexibility & Professional Values – Holds Level 2 English and maths and a Level 3 relevant qualification, with progression towards Level 6 IAG and Youth Mental Health First Aid, flexible to travel across sites, reliable, approachable and committed to continuous development.
