Industrial Placement – Transport & Mobility
From helping shape entire cities to adapting infrastructure to deal with the climate emergency, Buro Happold invites an undergraduate to join our Transport & Mobility team for a 12‑month industrial placement. The role is available in our Bath, Manchester or London offices.
About the Transport & Mobility Team
Our team works on a spectrum of projects worldwide, ranging from strategic master‑planning at city, area or development scale to transport assessments and infrastructure design at the planning stage.
What sort of projects would I work on?
The team’s workload is split evenly between domestic and overseas projects. Examples of recent work include:
* Middle East – Regional plans for the 2030 Saudi Transformation Plan, the Red Sea Project, Al Ula, Riyadh’s King Salman Park; Al Daayan Healthcare Campus in Qatar; Sabah Al Ahmad Sea City; Museum of the Future, Dubai.
* North America – Lower Manhattan streetscape improvement scheme.
* South America – Mixed‑use masterplan for Praderas, Chile.
* Asia – UK PACT projects for Indonesia, a new headquarters district for a leading Chinese tech provider, an island resort in Japan.
* Europe – SAP Garden Arena, Munich; City West 2040 Mobility Strategy, Berlin.
* UK – Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis Club expansion; Mayfield Development, Manchester; Thameside West, London’s Royal Docks; Vauxhall Cross, London; Lords Cricket Ground redevelopment; White City Living, West London.
About you
* Currently pursuing a degree in transport‑related subjects (Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Urban Design/Planning, Architecture, or similar).
* Passionate about transportation and emerging mobility trends, engineering design, sustainability and societal impact.
* Initiative‑driven, thrives in a team setting.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
* Comfortable delivering project deliverables within deadlines.
* Familiar with GIS software and geospatial data analysis (preferred).
* Graphic design skills and experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) are desirable.
* Strong research, filtering and information synthesis for diverse audiences.
* Comfortable performing numerical analysis.
