Hourly rate:£. - £. per hour

Hours: hours per week - Term Time only - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8.am - 4.pm, Thursday 8.am - 5pm and Friday 8.am - 4pm

Aurora White House School

We’re currently looking for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our school. You will be working along side the teacher and therapy teams to create an enabling environment and supporting students to actively engage with their social and academic environment.

Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora White House School in Quidenham, Norwich provides day placements for students aged 6 to years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.

With small classes, typically 7 children and a minimum of 3 staff per class you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

Main Purpose of the Role:

The purpose of the Higher Level Teaching Assistant is to support the Class Teacher with all elements of the day to day running of the class and to teach whole classes, groups and individual lessons in consultation with the Class Teacher on a regular basis across a range of classes.

1. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
2. To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school.
3. Support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a class teacher.
4. Select and adapt appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities
5. Reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
6. Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment
7. Participate in the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
8. Be a role model for new staff and supervise and guide less experienced TAs.
9. Further professional development by engaging in reflective practices and continuous professional development and appraisal, including attending all statutory training provided by the school.
10. Contribute to the community life of the school by taking an active part in the preparation and celebration of both community and multi-cultural events.
11. Respond to the varying and changing needs of the school and undertake duties and tasks to the highest ability in order to achieve the smooth running of the school.

Skills and Qualifications

12. The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification, or demonstrate equivalent skill level.
13. GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.

Knowledge and Experience:

14. Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD
15. Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
16. Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
17. Experience working within education is advantageous
18. Experience of working within a multi-cultural, inclusive setting

Due to the rural location of the school, candidates are strongly advised to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle.
