We have an opportunity for a Materials Management Working Team Leader to join our team at our Loughton, Essex site. Reporting to the Materials Management FLM, you will have full accountability for the safe and secure management of materials, acting as the final decision‑maker for safe operations. This includes scheduling deliveries, controlling documentation, driving improvements, overseeing health & safety, auditing processes, cycle counting, incident reporting, and managing spoils, projects, quarantines, customer shipments, and escalations within the materials team.
You will be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and control of material movement and storage, as well as the systems used to manage the flow of materials across distribution and manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the day‑to‑day management of material movement and storage, ensuring efficient flow across manufacturing and distribution using company systems (e.g. SAGE).
2. Take full accountability for safe and secure operations, including compliance with regulatory, legal, security, and import/export requirements.
3. Manage supply, demand, and stock levels, ensuring effective stock rotation, loss prevention, space utilisation, and a “just in time” material flow.
4. Plan and schedule deliveries in line with production forecasts (WIP), working closely with Procurement, Logistics, and customers to resolve transport and supply issues.
5. Oversee system controls, cycle counts, audits, and performance metrics, escalating risks or issues with secure materials where timescales or standards are not met.
6. Manage and develop the team, including recruitment, performance reviews, coaching, training plans, and maintaining skills and training matrices.
7. Promote a one‑team culture and company values, supporting continuous improvement, collaboration, and high standards of health, safety, ethics, and behaviour.
Contract type: Permanent
Working hours: Double Day shift pattern – Monday to Friday, 6am – 2pm or 2pm - 10pm (alternated weekly).
From 31st August, we will transition to a 24/5 Shift Pattern - consists of 3 crews of 12-hour shifts of either: 6.00 am to 6.00 pm; and 6.00 pm to 6.00 am, Monday to Friday rota. Attendance is 40 hours per week on average, including a 30-minute unpaid break plus a 15-minute unpaid break to be taken during the shift
Base location: Debden
Basic Salary: £46, per annum on Double Days, rising to £49, per annum on 24/5 shift pattern. Upon successful completion of a 6-month probation period, this will rise to £50, per annum.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
8. A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience with the ability to demonstrate the experience of leading and managing a team of people
9. ILM certificate or evidence of equivalent training or experience
10. Methodical & analytical approach to problem solving
11. Strong organisational & resource planning skills
12. Strong organisational ability to look forward and plan out activities
13. Experience of working in a stock control environment including shipping
14. Experience with working on computerised stock systems i.e. SAGE would be an advantage
15. Strong knowledge of PARVIS
