Description Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world Wood is recruiting for a Clerk of Works (Civils) to support our construction team based at St Fergus Gas Terminal on fixed term staff contract basis for 6 months. This is onsite role based at St Fergus. The Role You will act as the Principal Contractor’s on-site representative, providing independent inspection, quality assurance, and progress verification for civil engineering works including pile raft slab, hardstanding, and electrical/instrumentation (E&I) trenching. The Clerk of Works will ensure that all works are executed in compliance with design drawings, specifications, and approved quality standards, and will verify that contractor progress claims accurately reflect completed works on site. Witness and record key hold points and inspections. Review the civils contractor’s Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) and ensure all quality records are completed correctly. Identify defects, poor workmanship, or deviations from approved design, and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) or observations as required. Verify materials delivered to site are correct and meet specification. Liaise with the design team and Principal Designer to clarify technical queries arising from site inspections. Progress Verification and Reporting Monitor daily and weekly progress of works against the approved programme. Confirm that progress reported by the civils contractor (for invoicing or valuation) accurately reflects physical completion on site. Provide photographic and written evidence of completed works to support valuation approval. Maintain site inspection logs, records of works, and progress summaries. Provide weekly reports to the Construction Manager, highlighting quality issues, risks, and achievements. Health, Safety & Environmental Oversight Promote safe working practices in line with the Construction Phase Plan. Stop or report unsafe work if observed. Support the Principal Contractor in ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 duties on site. Qualifications What makes you remarkable? Qualifications and Experience: HNC/HND or degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience). Proven experience in site supervision, inspection, or Clerk of Works roles on civil engineering or industrial projects. Strong knowledge of concrete works, reinforcement, groundworks, trenching, and drainage. Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and ITPs. Familiarity with CDM 2015, quality management systems, and site safety requirements. Competent with Microsoft Word/Excel for reporting, and basic photo documentation tools. Core Competencies: Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy. Strong communication skills for interfacing with contractors, designers, and project management. Objective, methodical, and assertive when identifying quality or compliance issues. Proactive attitude towards safety and environmental compliance. Deliverables: Daily and weekly inspection reports (with photos and observations). Non-Conformance and Defect Reports (as required). Verified progress and measurement summaries to support contractor payment approvals. Final inspection and close-out report summarising quality and compliance outcomes.
