Job Description There is an opportunity for a suitably experienced and well-motivated Engineer to help shape the initial Deep Maintenance/UPKEEP delivery approach for A-class submarines within a critical UK Defence programme that will span the next 30 years. The HMS ASTUTE Deep Maintenance Project (ADMP) team is growing significantly with a new role opening as the Deputy Project Contract Manager (DPCM), i.e. Engineering Lead, for both the Nuclear Reactor and Propulsion Systems maintenance packages during the current Deep Maintenance Project (DMP) planning/enablement phase. In due course, your role will transition into the SDA Lead for the submarine Aft Zone during the transition to, and then throughout, DMP execution/delivery. Located in HMNB Devonport, you will be a key member of the closely integrated ADMP Joint Project Team (JPT) comprising highly skilled professionals from the SDA, Babcock, Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems. Due to security constraints, this post is exempt from hybrid working requests. A full-time working pattern and regular in-person workplace attendance are therefore essential for information security reasons and to also maximise the project benefits realised from formal/informal face-to-face collaboration within the JPT. Person specification For This Role, We Are Seeking The Following: Work closely with a wide range of MOD and Industry stakeholders to ensure all Rector and Propulsion Systems maintenance activities are efficiently planned, enabled and delivered to meet required outcomes. Identify opportunities and oversee realisation of technical solutions to directly reduce scheduled maintenance activity durations or promote improved baseline schedule adherence. Proactively initiate effective mitigation tasks and activities in response to Industry raised technical issues and risks. Deliver clear, concise and accurate written and verbal briefs on key technical matters to SDA Seniors. Work within SDA Engineering Policy and Processes. Lead and manage a team of junior SDA Engineers. Essential: Demonstrable prior experience (at least 2 years) of management of Reactor and/or Propulsion Systems work packages within the submarine or warship maintenance environments. Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes. Wide ranging depth and breadth of technical experience in own specialism with a broad understanding of the interdependencies between your work and related systems. Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or equivalent relevant professional registration or ability to attain within 9 months. Awareness of Nuclear Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) systems and their operation, e.g. completion of Nuclear Introductory Course (NIC) or equivalent formal training. Desirable Skills: Completed Nuclear Warship Support Course (NWSC) or equivalent formal training. APM Project Management Fundamentals qualification or equivalent. Relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification or equivalent experience. Member of a relevant Professional Engineering /Science Institute or equivalent body.
