An opportunity has arisen for self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join NHSGGC Pharmacy Services Staff Bank where you will be integral to ensuring the safe and effective supply of medicines to patients.


Knowledge, Training and Experience

The post holder will assist in the safe and effective supply of medicines to inpatient and outpatient areas. Duties include labelling and dispensing medicines that have been clinically screened by a pharmacist, including controlled drugs, ensuring accurate documentation and maintenance of stock balances.

You will be responsible for the accurate entry of ward requisitions onto the pharmacy stock control system and will participate in stock management activities, including stock checks, stock rotation and expiry date monitoring. The role involves working in a ward-based, patient-facing environment, providing ward stock top-up services and supporting nursing staff to ensure good medicines housekeeping practices. The post holder will also contribute to minimising medicines waste.


Essential Criteria

* General education with basic numeracy and literacy skills, evidenced by three Standard Grade qualifications or equivalent, including English and Mathematics

* Ability to communicate effectively using clear spoken and written English

* Basic IT skills

* Ability to work in accordance with standard operating procedures

* Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training and development

* Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload using own initiative to meet service demands


Desirable Criteria

* Experience of working within a healthcare environment or similar setting

* Experience of stock management systems

* Experience of training or supervising staff

* SVQ/NVQ Level 2 qualification

Full training will be provided in line with NHS policies and procedures.

Pharmacy qualification is desirable in addition to knowledge and appreciation for policies, standard operating procedures and legislation in relation to dispensing and supplying medicines, however this can be learned on the job.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
