Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding career that combines civilian and military firefighting? Do you have the courage, skills, and commitment to serve the Royal Air Force and the nation? If so, you might be interested in this opportunity to become a Sponsored Reserve Firefighter.
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across various locations. Please note that the start dates for these positions are dependent on successful completion of assessments and course availability at the Fire Service College. The application process can take several months.
Sponsored Reserves are crucial in providing Defence with a mission-critical service to enable military operations in the UK, overseas, and on operations.
As part of our commitment to building an inclusive and diverse workforce, we particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian, and other ethnic minority backgrounds. As a Sponsored Reserve, you will be required to be deployed overseas for 4 months at a time, followed by 16 months in the UK before redeployment.
What you'll be doing:
* Be part of the RAF Firefighter force providing Aerodrome & Rescue Firefighting capability to Defence across the UK and overseas.
* Respond to and fight fires in the UK, and rescue from military aircraft.
* Provide first response to emergencies on the Defence estate and promote fire safety awareness among Station personnel.
* Support operations and exercises in challenging environments when deployed in the UK and overseas.
* Train to operate highly specialised vehicles and equipment.
* Test, inspect, maintain vehicles and equipment, and develop your firefighter skills daily.
What we're looking for:
* UK or Republic of Ireland citizen, dual UK/other nationality passport holder, or Commonwealth citizen from birth. Resided in the UK for at least 3-5 years.
* Minimum GCSE Grade C/4-5 in English and Maths or equivalent.
* Current full driving license.
* Good physical fitness to undertake training and perform duties, including fitness tests.
* Meet health requirements (BMI, eyesight, medical conditions).
* Willing to undertake background checks and pass situational and behavioral assessments.
