We are seeking a Trauma Store Healthcare Assistant to manage the ordering, receipt and stock management of orthopaedic implants and pharmacy within the Department, focusing on patient care while maintaining a clinical role.
Main duties of the job
* Actively participate as a member of the theatres team and contribute to the efficiency of the department.
* Responsible for the efficient maintenance and organisation of T&O supplies within the Theatre department.
* Co‑ordinate the ordering, receipt, stock distribution and storage of specialist T&O supplies.
* Monitor stock usage ensuring cost‑effective service.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Assist the Team Leader to ensure that clinical practices accurately reflect the trust values.
* Inform Team Leader/Theatre Manager of changes that may affect safe practice.
* Take ownership of own professional competence and continuously improve.
* Manage unpredictable workloads and traumatic situations.
* Co‑ordinate ordering and distribution of all stock and non‑stock items.
* Maintain sterility, appropriate storage and manufacturer compliance.
* Ensure effective stock rotation and monitor expiry dates.
* Keep accurate record of stock deliveries against delivery notes.
* Anticipate usage and address shortfalls promptly.
* Respond to urgent stock requests.
* Conduct stock takes with logistics and company representatives.
* Maintain documentation of orders and manage electronic purchasing (iproc).
* Use IP Procurement and Oracle for records.
* Manage and maintain a chronological filing system for outstanding orders.
* Follow Trust Policies and propose procedure changes.
* Maintain good relations with Theatre & Store staff.
* Liaise with Team Leaders & Purchasing Department for stock levels.
* Report supply/stock problems to T&O Team Leaders.
* Train staff to deputise during absence.
* Implement transition of sterile packaged T&O implants and monitor stock.
* Process non‑stock requisition orders for T&O Loan kits.
* Coordinate with procurement and company representatives for order tracking.
* Manage pharmacy stock ordering and storage.
* Liaise with procurement for order verification and receipt.
* Manage x‑ray badge distribution to Trauma Team.
* Restock, label and check Departmental cardiac arrest boxes.
* Use IT and keyboard skills for electronic data collection.
* Maintain adequate consumables and order equipment as delegated.
* Apply manual handling policies specific to patients and equipment.
* Communicate effectively with all disciplines, patients, clients and relatives.
* Attend routine departmental meetings.
* Demonstrate professional respect and support for colleagues.
