IRISNDT is an established provider of specialist inspection and testing services to a range of industry sectors, including power generation, casting, aerospace, petro-chemical and oil & gas to companies around the UK and overseas.
Due to continued expansion, we are now looking for an experienced Welding Engineer to join our Power Technology Group based in Derby. As a focal point for welding advice, you will be involved in welding QA / QC activities, weld repair solutions and the provision and review of Weld Procedure Specifications. However, for the right candidate there are also opportunities to be involved in our wider asset integrity engineering activities such as outage inspections, component life / defect assessments, materials advice, metallurgical failure investigations and design modifications. Although the role will cover a range of sectors, there will be a key focus on the power generation industry.
Your Profile
In addition to having an in-depth knowledge of welding processes, you should have knowledge and experience in the following:
Essential
* Fabrication standards and quality requirements used in the power generation industry (e.g. BS 2633, BS 4677 and PD 5500). You will be required to keep up to date with the latest revisions to relevant standards.
* The provision / review of Welding Procedure Specifications and associated quality management documentation for new fabrications, repairs and modifications. Ideally, your weld repair experience should cover service-degraded steels e.g. those requiring repair for creep damage.
* Auditing of contractors in a QA / QC role during weld fabrication and repair activities.
* Managing projects to time, cost and quality.
Desirable
* Degradation mechanisms relevant to power plant components. Ideally this will include experience of conducting failure investigations.
* Assessing metallographic replicas e.g. for creep damage.
* Power plant design and operation.
* The inspection and integrity assessment of power plant components such as pipework, vessels, valves and headers. It would also be an advantage to have a familiarity with the UK Pressure System Safety Regulations.
* Pricing projects and preparing proposals / quotations for clients.
You should also have:
* A good attention to detail and a high standard of written and spoken English, including experience of technical report writing.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of building strong working relationships with your colleagues and customers.
Qualifications
* Degree or suitable alternative in a relevant subject such as Metallurgy / Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Physics. In addition, a good metallurgical understanding and background is essential.
* Qualified Welding Engineer (e.g. International Welding Engineer / Technologist diploma) or working towards this qualification.
* Ideally a Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration.
The role will require you to work away from home occasionally, mainly in the UK but with the potential for some work overseas.
This is a permanent position with fantastic opportunities for progression for those who want it, and an excellent opportunity to join a rapidly expanding market leader and play an integral part in the next stage of its growth.
Salary package is negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications.
