Medical Secretary / Patient Care Co-ordinator - Band 4
We are pleased to recruit a full-time Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our Medical Oncology Service on an 18-month fixed-term contract.
This newly created role is designed to provide high-quality administrative support to the Geriatric Oncology service and the Breast Oral Chemotherapy pathways, working closely with our Breast Clinical Nurse Specialists and wider clinical teams.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide comprehensive, efficient secretarial and administrative support to our Oncology consultants, breast nurses, and wider multidisciplinary team. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the service, supporting clinic administration, and helping us meet clinic letter turnaround targets.
This position requires excellent communication skills, confidence, and professionalism, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing deadlines. Strong typing skills, competency in Outlook, and good written and spoken English are essential.
You will be part of a close-knit and highly supportive administrative and nursing team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care within our medical oncology services.

Qualifications
* GCSE, A level or equivalent standard of education (especially Maths and English)
* ECDL or equivalent experience e.g. advance knowledge of a range of IT packages such as word, excel and outlook
Skills
* Typing skills of 50 wpm or RSA 2/3 or equivalent
* Great attention to detail
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills including a good telephone manner
* Methodical and logical approach to work prioritisation and planning
* Competence with a range of IT packages, e.g. Microsoft and CRS
* Ability to produce correspondence & reports to a high calibre
* Ability to communicate professionally at all levels and experience of dealing with patient anxiety in a reassuring manner
* Acts in a way that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures and promotes the Trust Health and Safety policies
* Experience of assisting in maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment for self and others
Knowledge
* Working knowledge / understanding of national targets with respect to the patient pathway and 18 week RTT rules.
* Good level of medical terminology
