Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU focuses on removing the financial benefit from criminals and ensuring compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration with internal teams and external partners across enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for the ECU, including two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer.
* Motivate, develop, and manage performance of the ECU team; oversee work delivery and priorities.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC).
* Influence senior stakeholders to ensure EA priorities are recognised by external agencies.
* Support the wider organisation by improving processes, sharing lessons learned, updating technical documentation, and advising other enforcement officers nationwide on POCA matters.
* Contribute to the team’s understanding of POCA, incident response, and business continuity planning; participate in training and reasonable adjustments if needed.
Experience/Skills/Qualifications
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in:
o Working in the law enforcement sector with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model
o Effective communication, feedback, performance management, and stakeholder relationship building
o Working under pressure and prioritising a varied workload
o Identifying improvements and leading changes to working practices
o Developing and enhancing team and individual capabilities
Desirable/Additional Information
* This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work from home and the nearest office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties is expected.
* Incident response duties may be required; readiness to respond to incidents or support business continuity, with potential additional pay.
