Job Description
Introduction
Our Client’s practice in Wem, Shrewsbury is seeking a part-time Veterinary Surgeon to join their close-knit, friendly team. The practice has recently undergone a full refurbishment, creating a welcoming and modern environment. With a loyal client base, 15-minute appointments, and a supportive, collaborative culture, this is an ideal opportunity for a vet who values both clinical standards and team camaraderie.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a part-time position working 30 hours per week over 3 days, with 1 in 6 full weekends based at the nearby Shrewsbury 24-Hour Hospital. No additional on-call or out-of-hours is noted, providing a sustainable and balanced rota.
Role Description
You will be responsible for delivering excellent patient care in both consultations and procedures, preparing thorough treatment plans, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You’ll contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the team, supporting both experienced colleagues and junior staff. The setup also enables you to work in a modern and well-equipped facility while benefiting from a stable and loyal caseload.
Team Size
The team at Wem consists of 2 other experienced Veterinary Surgeons and 5 nurses and receptionists. The practice culture is inclusive and friendly, with shared lunches and a team dynamic that supports collaboration and continuous improvement.
Practice Details
The custom-built practice offers separate dog and cat kennels, a central prep area surrounded by consult rooms, x-ray, and theatre. The recent refurbishment has enhanced its functionality and client experience, creating a calm and efficient clinical environment.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical knowledge and a team-oriented approach. You should be confident in consultations, soft-tissue procedures, and capable of contributing to an inclusive, progressive clinical culture. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication and leadership potential, especially in mentoring and supporting nurse consults and Schedule 3 procedures.
